Two framing failures here:
Republicans deliberately let Obamacare subsidies lapse knowing this outcome would happen, but that reality makes the GOP look very bad so it’s omitted from the headline. The increases are just happening, without context of the deliberate policy drivers.
The increases will be felt hardest among middle class Americans, but the impact is framed first in political terms as a “blow to Obamacare,” emphasizing politics over policy impact to the American people.
The substance of the reporting by @ReedAbelson @sangerkatz is fair and clear, but editorial chose a headline that could very easily mislead the reader into thinking the program is just unworkable when deliberate Republican policy is weakening it.
It’s not just the @nytimes this is very common everywhere
"Republicans fuck up people's healthcare" is the reality, but the @nytimes wants you to think it's a failure of "Obamacare"

He was doing this all campaign long...That weird swaying-to-the-music incident. Talking about Arnold Palmer's penis. Mixing up Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley.
But the media just completely ignored it. Even when his opponent was a woman who was 20 years younger than him and incredibly sharp. The mental decline narrative was still solely about Biden.
And now that it's too late, they (very begrudgingly) start to acknowledge it. Another massive media failure.
