wading into Pokemon discourse again but the thing with HMs is that beyond, like, Surf and Fly, they don't actually get that much use in the field. Most of them will clear, like, one mandatory obstacle and a handful of optional ones
and I really think that many of the options from Gen 7 on are fun. Poke Ride and Ride Pokemon is cool and feels connected to the world, Secret Techniques from LGPE and the Raidon upgrades gives you a deeper connection with one Pokemon. Rotom Bike...well okay not that one maybe

95% of competitive pokemon memes aren’t as funny as they’re hyped up to be but the bar for pokemon fan humor has been set so fucking low by casual fans that even the most mundane compmons shitpost is peak comedy in comparison
one of my favorite arguments that I'm saying in favor of HGSS' pacing is that you're only supposed to use, like, 2-3 Pokemon and using 6 is a self-imposed challenge. Sure lmao
I do see people making the other argument, that you aren't supposed to limit yourself to a team of 6, which I'm more amenable to. The games do encourage you to eventually whittle it down to your top 6, though
the video apparently also says HGSS fixes the "no Johto Pokemon in Johto" problem with the pokewalker and while it's cool they addressed it and I'm glad it was bundled free, a) it's an optional add-on, and you can't judge the full game on that and
I feel like people (on both sides of the argument) misunderstand the issue with the level curve. It's not that the game is insurmountably difficult, it's that it makes the pacing feel really sluggish
it makes Johto (and Kanto) feel smaller. I've seen people get to Clair with a second-stage starter while doing a normal run, and that's...I dunno, weird.
