#Noirvember Day 4 recommendation: THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI (1947) by Orson Welles.
Orson Welles takes the conventions of film noir and transforms them into something truly extraordinary by adding unconventional narrative, striking cinematography and camera movements that are modern even for today.
Rita Hayworth is magnificent as a femme fatale in this film.
THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI (1947) has one of the most iconic climaxes in cinema history i.e. the hall of mirrors sequence. An absolute essential for anyone interested in classic film noir.
#Noirvember Day 3 recommendation: BOB LE FLAMBEUR (1956) by Jean-Pierre Melville.
This film had a major impact on New French Wave directors. Melville in BOB LE FLAMBEUR (1956) delivers a stylish and influential portrait of an ageing gambler planning his one last heist.
It is often regarded as one of the defining works, not only of French film noir, but also of French crime cinema and French heist cinema.
LE SAMOURAÏ (1967) and LE CERCLE ROUGE (1970) might be the highlight of Melville's career, but BOB LE FLAMBEUR (1956) is a true underrated gem of him. This film established many of the stylistic conventions that would later become synonymous with Melville's gangster films.

John Carpenter's "They Live" (1988) and Paul Verhoeven's "Starship Troopers" (1997) - These two movies perfectly reflect the reality we live in. One movie revealed it explicitly; while the other was taken too literally instead of a parody it is, and most people missed the whole point. I don't know if people understood ST better through repeated viewings or if people nowadays grasp the meaning better on their first watch. Either way, as long as people understand, it is all well and good. It is not a surprise that both have a huge cult following and are celebrated now.
P.S: Both these movies were released on this day.

It's been about two weeks since my last update, and I've been struggling with the outline of my new movie after @remainmovie.
I've been filling this notebook with ideas and doing research calls, but I've been feeling lost. I almost gave up on the outline altogether but this morning I committed to outlining through the end of the year, then starting the screenplay after Christmas.

Went to rewatch WILD AT HEART yesterday evening. Criterion’s new 4K restoration looks fantastic. The unrated version of the film is followed by two deleted scenes. There are more screenings in theaters this week. The 4K UHD and Blu-ray discs are being released on November 17.
