The latest controversy in the FHSAA involves the new open division in volleyball. The @beachside_high Barracudas are in the middle of it. Here are some bonus highlights from tonight's win over First Academy. Beachside is the 6th best team in the state and qualified for the new open division. There's a pool play round and the top two teams from each pool advance to the state semifinals. In Beachside's pool, there was a 3 way tie including the Barracudas, Plant and Calvary Christian. In volleyball (I'm told), the universal 3 way tiebreaker goes to set percentage. The FHSAA used set percentage to determine (accurately) that Calvary Christian wins the pool. The FHSAA then DID NOT use set percentage for the 2nd place team - they reverted back to head to head and since Plant beat Beachside, they get the 2nd spot and Beachside's season is over. The Barracudas are not happy understandably. Last I heard, there's still conversation but there had been chatter all week and not a lot of movement. It's the FHSAA's serve and history shows, there will be a service error.
