Fuck, we have a new problem. The Neocons have a new pitch to Trump: 'The only way to fix the damage the Iran war has done to your legacy is to force them to give up their highly enriched uranium.' They're spamming him with this stupid new idea, undermining Vance's efforts to reach a diplomatic solution What they leave out of their pitch is that Iran will NEVER give up their uranium to Trump, as it's their only bargaining chip, and giving it up is an irreversible step, while Trump's conscessions (lifting the blockade and sanctions) are easily reversible And needless to say, the Iranians do not trust Trump, or the U.S.

My good friend Chris Wood, in his latest Greed & Fear: America's budget deficit is already 6.2% of GDP, with no recession. In a typical recession, it widens by about 6 percentage points. AMERICANS BETTER PRAY THAT A RECESSION ISN'T JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

« Vous avez perdu la guerre et l’élection. Vance a reconnu sa défaite, Rubio est sur le départ, Hegseth est sur le point d’être limogé, et le commandant du CENTCOM est désormais podcasteur ! Alors, à qui exactement à Washington faut-il faire passer ce message ? Déclenchez une guerre, et vous subirez une riposte dévastatrice. » — Général de division Mohsen Rezaei, Secrétaire du Conseil suprême de sécurité nationale
You lost the war and the election.Vance has conceded,Rubio is heading for the exit,Hegseth is about to be fired, and the CENTCOM commander is now a podcaster! So٫Who exactly in Washington do we need to get this message across to? Start a war,and you’ll face a devastating response.

This is CENTCOM inviting Iran to escalate while the Vice President is attempting to negotiate with the Iranians. This is, as CENTCOM calls it, “policy by CONOP,” when the military finds a way to subvert the White House without blatantly disobeying the President, by taking actions that will ensure a war escalates or perpetuates. This tactic was implemented over & over again in the War on Terror in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, etc. Many Americans died, needlessly. The Iranians have made it clear that they won’t accept negotiations while under threat of escalation. Iranian leadership has stated there will either be war or there will be peace, but they will not sit idly by and wait for the next attack & they won’t tolerate being slowly strangled by sanctions. Imposing more sanctions, & publicly broadcasting that we’re imposing more sanctions, is brash provocation. The midterm results sent a message that the President should find impossible to ignore: the American people do not support this war. We want out. The VP is currently in negotiations to end it, & a new Chief of Staff was chosen under the auspices of helping the President do just that. CENTCOM announcing this escalation is the military working directly against what President Trump is attempting to accomplish. If the President had any desire to escalate, he’d simply do it. Instead, thankfully it appears he is attempting more diplomacy, and CENTCOM must support that. It’s become abundantly clear that the President needs to install a new national security team, one that’s not tied to starting the war and that can instead end it. To do that, he needs people who can & will get the national security state under control, not submit to it.

40 civil society organizations – including @commondefense, @demandprogress, @justfp and NIAC Action – are demanding Congress act on its mandate from voters to end the Iran war by cutting off funding for it beginning with the upcoming government funding expiration on December 11, 2026. “Congress must ensure that any subsequent continuing resolution, appropriations measure, or other funding or authorization legislation explicitly prohibits any funding for the ongoing, unauthorized hostilities against Iran,” the letter declares. It goes on to urge lawmakers “to commit now that, beginning with the December 11 funding deadline, they will not advance or support legislation that continues open-ended funding for these unauthorized hostilities, and will insist on a funding ban for the war.” The letter comes as Democratic lawmakers are debating publicly how to use their historic mandate to end the Iran war, with many key lawmakers and other party leaders coming out explicitly in support of a funding ban for the Iran war. That list includes Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed (D-MI), top Democratic House appropriator Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), House Armed Services Committee ranking member Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. Several of these individuals have clear Presidential aspirations and can tell that political winds are blowing decisively against the Iran war and in favor of lawmakers putting a serious check on the disastrous war. “President Trump is being pushed by unapologetic cheerleaders of this disastrous war to escalate and make good on his threats to ‘destroy’ the rest of Iran,” said NIAC President @jabdi. “Now, with a clear mandate from voters, is the time for decisive action to terminate the Iran war before it reignites. Not next year, but right now.” “The midterms delivered a clear mandate to end Trump’s war,” said Cavan Kharrazian, Senior Policy Advisor with Demand Progress. “Congress needs to act on that mandate in the lame duck, not wait until next year. Democratic leaders must commit now to opposing any funding bill that fails to explicitly prohibit funding for the war on Iran. They have the leverage to force this fight. They need to use it.” “Voters just gave Democrats an overwhelming mandate to end this war. They must act on that mandate and refuse to send Trump and Pete Hegseth a blank check for war, even temporarily through a continuing resolution. Anything else would be a blatant betrayal of the American people, and risk making Democrats complicit in the war crimes Trump has threatened,” said @ErikSperling, executive director of Capitol Hill-based advocacy organization Just Foreign Policy. “Cutting off war funding will push Trump toward diplomacy, which should be the top priority. With his threat to follow through with threats to attack Iran, it is a moral imperative for Congress to use their power of the purse and pull the plug.” Read the full letter: niacouncil.org/40-organizati…

My article in @FortuneMagazine with David M. Walker, former Comptroller General of the US: "Fiscal responsibility needs to be a priority in the lame-duck session, when the outgoing Congress meets after the election and before the new Congress takes office in January. Congress must pass the bipartisan Fiscal Commission Act (H.R. 3289) before it adjourns to set the table in Congress for tough spending, revenue, and other choices in the future."
