I love the DIME dev econ JMP blog series, both as an overview of recent research and a source of material for my teaching. To support these goals, I built a searchable Archive with all published DIME and ETRM JMP blogs to date, with 310 posts so far:

The goal of the archive
🔎 Search for papers by topic, country, method, etc.
📈 Explore recent JMPs and how the field is changing over time and space
🎓 Find recent papers with accessible blog posts for teaching particular topics or methods
I'll plan to update it annually!

The first 48-team men’s #WorldCup has reached the round of 16.
In my previous post, I looked at who reached the new round of 32. But the R16 is the better historical benchmark: from 1986–2022, it was the first knockout round. 1/7

The first 48-team men’s #WorldCup group stage is complete, and the federation-level story is clear: CAF has had an exceptional tournament so far.
9 of 10 CAF teams advanced, including two first-time World Cup participants. #ThisTimeForAfrica? 1/5

Despite limited pre-tournament excitement and anger at FIFA’s $$ > all attitude, this expanded World Cup has not seen dilution or predictability.
Matches have been exciting, more regions are putting teams into meaningful knockout matches, and some are making the most of it. 6.5/7
As we enter the R16, which host has the best chance to make a deeper run: the USA, Mexico, or Canada?
And who is the favorite now: France, Argentina (and the apparently ageless Messi), or someone else? 7/7

Average points still show the familiar hierarchy: UEFA and CONMEBOL remain on top.
As in 2022, CAF’s group-stage performance now looks much closer to that top tier and ahead of CONCACAF, whom they have been alternating with as 3rd-best federation. Which will win a Cup first? 4/5
Total group-stage points remain relatively dispersed across federations, similar to Qatar.
The long-run decline since 1986 mostly reflects broader representation across CAF, AFC/OFC, and CONCACAF without weaker average performance. But please, no more expansion @FIFANTINO ! 5/5
With the 2026 #WorldCup group stage almost wrapped up, I rebuilt a small historical benchmark from 1998–2022.
Main takeaway: UEFA dominates raw results, but often underperforms FIFA-ranking expectations outside Europe. 1/7

There is also a suggestive parity pattern: group-stage points look less concentrated across federations in several World Cups hosted outside Europe and South America.
Small sample and many confounders (and focused on the group stage only), but a fun little pattern. 6/7
I’ll update this once the 2026 group stage finishes!
The newformat will need a modified benchmark, since third-place teams can now advance.
Will the larger field increase or decrease parity across federations? 7/7
