In 1972, Jean Boulet broke the world altitude record for a helicopter (which still stands today).
At the controls of an SA 315B “Lama”, he reached a record altitude of 12,442 metres above Istres.
At that altitude, the cockpit was completely iced over, with temperature at -62°C.
