An excellent riposte to the BBC's latest attempt to traduce Glasgow. Sad thing is, there are scores of young talented filmmakers who could have produced a genuinely enlightening documentary about the city, warts and all. Instead we got a cheap & tawdry hatchet job. The BBC pollutes everything it touches in Scotland. People, places, politics, institutions. Walk through the doors at Pacific Quay and your journalistic soul starts rotting. Hey son, we need 60 mins showing Glasgow as a sh1thole. Do a good job and hey, who knows what other work we might have for you? Just remember, sh1thole. OK?
Glasgow deserves better than periodic ritual condemnation. If I hadn’t spent real time in Glasgow; walking those streets at 3am feeling safer than in most European cities; I might have swallowed the latest BBC framing wholesale. But I have been there. I’ve seen the city at night, felt its pulse, and known its people. So when pieces like this reduce Glasgow to drugs, violence and racism, it lands as something more than journalism. It feels like a selective, recurring campaign that shows little regard for the community it claims to examine. Every city has problems that demand honest attention and real solutions. Pretending otherwise helps no one. Glasgow is no exception. But painting an entire city and its people through the darkest lens available, while treating occasional disorder as defining character, is not balance. It is disregard. Glaswegians have long punched above their weight. The “People Make Glasgow” ethos is not empty branding; it is lived reality. Problems exist and should be confronted without denial. But reducing a complex, resilient city to a weekly dossier of its worst moments, while soft-pedalling the everyday dignity, creativity and solidarity of its people, is not serious analysis. It is a narrative that erodes more than it illuminates. Again, Glasgow deserves better than periodic ritual condemnation. | #Glasgow #Scotland #PeopleMakeGlasgow

How did BBC Scotland get it so wrong on the success of the Glasgow Games? One major reason is that the BBC isn't Scottish. No genuinely Scottish broadcaster would have misread the mood of the nation this badly. Another reason is the BritNat culture within BBC Scotland. This culture grossly distorts Scotland into a caricature of extreme failure where nothing works. Add to that the current politicisation of Glasgow by BritNats who insist it has been failed by the SNP and needs an English style Mayor to prevent catastrophe. This image of Glasgow, and wider Scotland, prevails within the BBC HQ on the Clyde. Nothing works in Scotland. Everything is inferior to that south of the border.

Gibraltar voted against #Brexit & was rewarded with free movement. N Ireland voted against Brexit and retained free movement. Scotland? We voted against Brexit & got lumbered with ongoing Brexit chaos. Union of Equals etc.
Crowds crossed freely from Spain into Gibraltar for the first time in 118 years after the physical border with the contested British territory was removed overnight. The historic agreement - which came into force at midnight - follows four years of negotiations after Britain's exit from the European Union. Spain will now be responsible for Schengen border controls at Gibraltar airport and port. That means no more passport checks for the 15,000 Spanish workers who cross into the Rock every day.

The demise of the BBC in Scotland is fine in terms of its anti-SNP influence weakening, but at some point we have to acknowledge a trusted - TRUSTED! - public service broadcaster is necessary and vital. The Scottish parliament will have to act at some point to address the situation at BBC Scotland. STV's decision to cut its north east news service is just more evidence of how badly served Scotland is by broadcasters. Scots contribute over £300m each year to BBC coffers. We are being short changed.

Another day with no gas used in Scotland to generate electricity but all of our bills based on high cost gas. We can't sort this in the UK. We can only fix it by leaving.
Yesterday #wind produced 34.8% of British electricity, more than imports 16.3%, gas 13.9%, nuclear 12.9%, solar 12.0%, biomass 7.2%, other 2.1%, hydro 0.9%, *excl. non-renewable distributed generation

If Reform had won in Scotland/ Wales it wd be an endorsement of detention centres, migrant hostility, austerity & welfare cuts. Question Time panels wd be full of it. But the SNP & pro indy Scottish Greens HAVE won, yet that's not an endorsement of independence. Go figure.

You have to admit, today's Scottish results for the SNP and particularly the Scottish Greens are pretty remarkable considering 99% of the news media were briefing against them on a daily basis. Imagine if we had an independent press. 🤔

I've got the TV on in the background, it's fascinating and pathetic in equal measure watching the @BBCScotlandNews coverage trying to spin SNP bad in the face of great results. They must be livid. Defund them on day 1.

If you live in Scotland and vote for the union, what's your defence of this? Or does it not bother you?
Scotland has vast energy resources, yet some of the highest energy bills in Europe. Our only oil refinery has been closed and massive renewable investment projects have been blocked. The choice is ours: a dim future in the UK, or a bright one as an independent nation.

Private companies that sign contracts to deliver public services and then fail to do so should never be allowed to pay dividends to shareholders. A shareholder is a company owner. A company owner who takes public money, doesn't deliver, but takes profit, should be prosecuted.

Live Arran ferry schedule: 4 leaving today and 6 scheduled returns tomorrow. Stop with the ferry crisis and 'Scotland is shite' nonsense: it's now actually affecting tourism and island footfall: try journalism for a change. ticketing.calmac.co.uk/B2C-C…

Anas Sarwar in recent weeks ... Rebuked by Lord Advocate for making misleading comments relating to a live case. Condemned by Fire Fighters for making misleading comments anout the Glasgow fire. Condemned by a stroke charity for a disgusting joke. If this was John Swinney it would be all over BBC Scotland and STV News. He'd be the subject of discussions with media commentators with his suitability as FM called into question. But it isn't Swinney. It's Sarwar.

In Scotland, we support our carers. From today, carers who look after more than one person for at least 20 hours a week will be able to claim over £500 for each additional cared-for person. That’s the SNP standing up for Scotland’s carers. thescottishsun.co.uk/money/1…
