During our panel at Labour Party Conference 2026, I was able to ask the UK Minister for the Middle East and Afghanistan, Stephen Doughty MP on his thoughts about the UK supporting the campaign for Gender Apartheid at the UN and the situation for Afghan women and girls under the Taliban regime. This #DayOfTheGirl let’s not forget what is at stake here. It has been 5 years since the Taliban banned girls from an education and the right to work, and basic freedoms. I will never give up campaigning to change this, and help restore the rights of Afghan women and girls

I've been elected Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Saudi Arabia this week. Saudi Arabia is an important and close ally of the UK and I am glad that the government has expanded its military support to the Kingdom to defend itself from attacks by the Houthis.

The US is trying to do to Ukraine what it did to Afghanistan. Trying to pull the rug from underneath it. Luckily, Ukraine is in Europe, and not in the neighbourhood of the IRGC and ISI. Ukraines neighbours understand and know Ukraine’s security and territorial integrity is tied to their own. To see the U.K. gather around Ukraine and commit to protect it, regardless of what the USA is doing, should be comforting to Ukrainians. 📸: From the summer in Rome #SlavaUkraïni

Thank you to His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia @aksa_alsaud for joining us at @LabourFPG alongside @cmec_uk yesterday for the Emergency Briefing for Parliamentarians in the House of Commons, on the recent attacks from the Houthis. Huge thanks to @EmilyThornberry and @kitmalthouse for co-chairing the session, and to all the Labour & Conservative members of both Houses of Parliament, that attended this briefing, including Minister @Uma_Kumaran on behalf of the FCDO. Great team work with my friend @CharlotteLeslie !

Important calls with @afrah_alzouba and @W_Elkhereiji today on situation in Yemen & KSA. The Houthis must cease escalation in Yemen & reckless attacks on infrastructure & civilians, including in KSA. We stand with Saudi Arabia & Government of Yemen in face of Houthi aggression.

Fantastic news thank you! @AngelaRayner
I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and I’m getting on with the job. Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help. That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils. Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen. Here's everything you need to know ⬇️

For some time I’ve been warning about the influence war being fought online.⬇️⬇️ In June last year, when Iran was hit and internet connectivity there was disrupted, dozens of anonymous social media accounts championing Scottish independence suddenly went quiet. I pointed this out at the time, and despite the reporting, some people in my comments insisted I was making it up. I wasn’t. And the wider threat is something we need to take seriously. This week we’ve seen what happens when Russia gets hit. Ukraine struck three Yandex data centres and automated traffic from its network fell by around 94%. And all of a sudden, people are reporting that some MAGA, anti-Zelensky, pro-AfD and other far-right accounts have gone unusually quiet. We can’t say these things are connected — the Yandex figures measure automated web traffic, not political social media activity — but the reports raise questions worth investigating. Because we already know there is a substantial machinery of foreign interference working to manipulate political debate online. If you don’t think this is happening here, you’re being naive to the threat. It’s happening now. Whatever the Russians did or didn’t manage to achieve during the Brexit referendum, we know they’ve spent years trying to interfere in our politics and drive division online. So ask yourself: when it comes to divisive political issues, why do certain arguments dominate our feeds? Why does outrage so often suck the air out of everything else? How much is genuine political debate, how much is amplified by algorithms, and how much is being deliberately pushed by hostile states? Not every political disagreement is manufactured. Of course it isn’t. But those disagreements are being exploited online by hostile actors because a divided population is far easier to influence than a country that stands together. We need to get much more serious about foreign interference in British politics. euronews.com/2026/10/12/did-…
