Did you feel the shake, Seattle? A 4.3 earthquake just jolted Western Washington.

Remember kids, if you won't pay for fantastically written viral articles on little covered slices of American life, there soon won't be any reporters to bring you more fantastically written viral articles on little covered slices of American life. Also, subs are just $1 today.
There were *three* young WSU runners, two got caught and kicked out and one got away. We saw one of their dads at the game then ran into him again in a Manhattan hotel elevator:
His take:
“My kids drive me nuts, man.”

The Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild is shocked and disappointed by @mcclatchy 's decision to lay off 33% of its unionized workers at the Idaho Statesman, The News Tribune (Tacoma), Tri-City Herald, The Olympian and Bellingham Herald. This includes 10 journalists in Idaho, and seven across Washington.
These severe cuts will hobble these news organizations and leave the public throughout the Northwest less informed about the events and decisions that affect them, and with fewer people holding the powerful to account.
These are journalists who investigated local hospitals, served as watchdogs over state and local government, showed up at every high school game, jumped in to cover breaking news like wildfires, covered news in overlooked communities, and monitored development in one of the fastest growing regions in the country. One of these papers will no longer have a dedicated reporter covering city hall. Another will no longer have anyone dedicated to covering the state capitol.
McClatchy has decided that short-term profits for a hedge fund matter more than the wellbeing of the communities that its newspapers are supposed to serve. That is a model that is destined to fail.

A tank failure at a Washington paper mill killed 11 workers and injured at least 8 more. Newly released footage shows the moment the tank failed, spilling thousands of gallons of corrosive chemical that burns skin worse than acid.
Longview mill workers said they heard a rumble and a rush of liquid. Then they ran.

Ashley Whitehead, 56, was in line for cotton candy at the Bite of Seattle festival when shots rang out at Seattle Center.
She was hit in the pelvis, and before she was taken to the hospital, she told her daughter I love you and that everything would be OK. She died in surgery.
Ashley Whitehead, a cancer survivor and art lover described as a free spirit and devoted mother, was one of 3 people killed during the Bite of Seattle shooting.
In her immediate family's first interview with media, they told me everyone is in shock.
