Is this not the most gutting, beautiful set of three lines? Augh. I will never write anything as incredible as this.

In this story JD shares that he panicked & took his kid to the emergency room when he was totally fine. Instead of being relieved by that good news he got upset that there are translators in the hospital helping the sick. This must’ve been before he was Catholic.

Look up tonight. The Hunter's Moon will be putting on quite a show.
Golden aspens and a brilliant moon make for a stunning fall scene at @BLMNational's Conway Summit in California.
Baby beaver Buttercup visits the vet, and his innate “builder” instinct immediately kicks in
The little one starts chewing on the veterinarian’s stethoscope, imagining it’s the perfect branch for his future dam.

There is something so heavy and grotesque about the way writing depends on visibility + being “seen” + attempting to seduce the algorithm rather than the reader these days. The glut transactional economies makes sincerity seem absurd. But poetry insists on an Otherwise.

I say that these tech billionaires are end times accelerationists who believe they will be in a bunker, on the moon or uploaded to the cloud, and therefore have no incentive to prioritize the future safety of their fellow citizens or their legacies.
Well yes that’s right @MollyJongFast at least the Gilded Age for all its many flaws created enduring institutions, Vanderbilt, Carnegie-Mellon, Rockefeller, Stanford Universities and the University of Chicago, not to mention the Frick Collection, Carnegie Endowment for Peace. The tech bro wealth mostly meh, Chan-Zuckerberg Hub does good things, but the others mostly silly stuff that will be forgotten. There’s still time for them to turn it around…

Since our dog died, I save hundreds of dollars a month. I can sleep in 45 minutes later. I don’t have to run home from parties and I can impulsively plan trips. I don’t have to share my side of the bed. I can let my young kids eat brownies without fear and I don’t need to shovel a path for him at midnight if it snows.
And I hate it. I hate all these realities. Our lives are smaller and they’re sadder.
This post is about a great dog.
It’s also about having a village and showing up.

This is baby Backpack, in case you needed another reason to root for the Lord of Lard, Earl of Girth and Commander in Beef. 👑
He got it from his mama.
Bear 89, aka Backpack, is the 2026 Fat Bear Week champ. Turns out hefty runs in the family.
His mom, Holly the Duchess of Density, won in 2019. She carried him on her back as a cub and helped him survive a serious leg injury. Now her little Backpack has a crown of his own. 👑
