There’s nowhere better than what was once the kingdom of Northumbria to go on a pilgrimage - so thank you, @durhamcathedral (where both Cuthbert & Bede lie buried), for making use of an ancient chapel in such an imaginative & moving way. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckgx…

The best feast-day-of-the-Venerable-Bede I’ve ever had as, before his tomb, to the singing of choirs, amid the billowing of incense, in a chapel lit by shafts of sunlight, dressed like a captain of the Varangian guard, I am inaugurated as the Bede Librarian at @durhamcathedral

Today is the feast day of our Patron Saint, St Cuthbert. Durham Cathedral exists as the final resting place of one of the North’s greatest saints: the man who lived a humble and prayerful life and who inspired many to follow in the footsteps of Christ.

Yesterday afternoon the College of Canons of Durham Cathedral met to elect the Venerable Rick Simpson as the next Bishop of Durham. This ancient ceremony expresses the consent of the Diocese to Rick’s appointment, which the College did with great joy.
