Women dominate ONE catagory of streaming and suddenly we have a misandry problem lmao. I know great male vtubers who have big and dedicated audiences and who are beloved by the women around them. If you feel the deck is stacked against men here, maybe it's time to look inward!!!!
One thing Iโve noticed with the drama around this is people correctly saying a lot of viewers will vote for Peanut out of spite because of the stigma around VTubers and the hatred toward them
No one, however, is talking about why there is so much stigma and hatred. Maybe we should focus on fixing thatโholding the space accountable, doing better, and leading by exampleโto actually reduce the stigma and hesitancy from so many people ๐
Thereโs a boatload of legitimate criticism: hypersexual content(deeply targeting 10+ and 13+ audiences), predatory behavior, constant high-school-level drama, deep misandry throughout the space, constant hypocrisy, and using anything and everything to get ahead. Hell, half the space treats accountability as equivalent to assault
I get it, Peanut doesnโt count himself as a VTuber and we all want our favorite streamers to win, people who deserve to win, but if him winning upsets people, we really should look a little deeper
I love VTubing, and there are so many VTubers and artists who I love so dearlyโpeople who are talented and who deserve the world, to be rewarded and celebrated. But I do think the space overall needs a hefty dose of accountability and personal responsibility. If we want it to grow and thrive, we need to be a space that is actually likeable, decent, and great. Not because we mask as that, but because we actually are that. So many people look into this space and they see sexual depravity, predatory behavior, greed, backstabbers, drama, and loads of anti-male rhetoricโฆ Itโs just a bit much
If people protest the medium, maybe we should start asking why they protest it instead of just dismissing them entirely as whatever new label fits best to slander, villainize, and discredit them. And yeah, I'm sure there are just some awful people but I don't believe that's the whole story
Anyways, food for thought I guess
