We lost a true industry legend yesterday.
Polycount has its roots in the early FPS mod and dev scene, where Richard “Levelord” Gray helped shape what it meant to be a level designer and create the maps that defined a generation of shooters.
Whether you had the chance to work with him, learned from his work, or were influenced by his design without even realizing it, Levelord helped pave the way for generations of level designers, world artists, and environment artists.
His impact on our industry runs deeper than many realize and his legacy will live on in the worlds we build for years to come.
Richard "Levelord" Gray passed away on October 12, 2026, at the age of 68.

With the recent announcement at Blizzcon of the Roadhog rework, it is always fun to spot the Greentooth love. What other games have you spied this little easter egg? Share the love in the comments.
That face when you wake up and found you have started another game project, in a different engine that's completely unrelated to what you were doing. ... And you spent money on Asset Store Templates.
