Ufff...it's sad to see that we register a 'NIL' when it comes to intellectuals!
INTERESTING: my colleague @ashoupadhyay asked for details from Home Ministry on how many people/organisations had been identified as ‘Dimagi Naxals’ . Answer from Home ministry? NIL!😊

𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗝𝗜 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗱 Former SC judge Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul made a startling revelation in his forthcoming memoir, "Without Fear Or Favour'. He stated that Former CJI Chandrachud was “too deferential to the Government”. But Justice Kaul's disclosures don't stop at judicial appointments of Collegium. ▪️𝗣𝗠𝗟𝗔: Justice Kaul says that after his bench listed whether aspects of the PMLA judgment needed reconsideration, the Government regarded the development as unfavourable. The matter subsequently surfaced before another bench without Kaul being consulted. Justice Kaul significantally added that former CJI Chandrachud also advised him to find a “middle path”. 𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗝𝗜 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗱'𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 - ▪️𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘆𝗮: Former CJI Chandrachud authored the unanimous 2018 judgment rejecting demands for an independent investigation into Judge B.H. Loya's death. ▪️𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗶–𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴 : Former CJI Chandrachud bench refused to take the investigation away from SEBI and hand it to an SIT or CBI and found no apparent regulatory failure by SEBI. ▪️ 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘁𝗿𝗮 -𝗦𝗵𝗶𝘃 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀: The case was referred to a Constitution Bench in August 2022. The final judgment came in May 2023. The Court held the Governor's floor-test decision unjustified but did not restore the Uddhav Thackeray government. ▪️𝗖𝗘𝗖-𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘄: Parliament removed the CJI from the selection committee through the 2023 Act. The Supreme Court subsequently refused to stay that provision. Though Former CJI Chandrachud was not on the bench that did so. ▪️𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Former CJI Chandrachud was on the 3-judge bench that declined interim interference, transferred the pending cases to the Supreme Court and referred the constitutional questions to a 5-judge bench. ▪️𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀: PM Modi attending Ganesh Puja at the sitting CJI Chandrachud's residence. An episode that itself prompted former judges and lawyers to question the institutional distance between the Executive and Judiciary.

How Mr Gyanesh Kumar Was Appointed The Chief Election Commissioner? “He was not even found fit for the Additional Secretary panel. Later he was also found unfit for the Secretary panel.” In a wide-ranging interview with me for the London Vārta podcast, former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi turns his attention to the man currently under fire from the opposition in India: Gyanesh Kumar, the serving CEC. So how did he get the job? Mr Quraishi does not mince his words. He says: “What is known about this gentleman is that he was very close to Amit Shah. Extremely close—he worked under him in the Home Ministry. He was one of the architects of the removal of Article 370 in Kashmir… Besides that, when the Ram Mandir Trust was being formed, he was the one who set it up.” “According to reports, he was not even found fit for the Additional Secretary panel. Later he was also found unfit for the Secretary panel. But because he had worked so closely with Amit Shah… pressure was applied… and he was made Secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation, of which Amit Shah was the minister.” On the formal selection process itself: “In 2023, the selection of the Chief Election Commissioner had to be made… under the new Act the government called three people to consider the names. One was Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He nominated Amit Shah—the person closest to him, his companion—and the Leader of the Opposition. And Gyanesh Kumar was selected.” The full conversation, covering the Election Commission, the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, and much more, is on the London Vārta podcast. #cineinkpodcast #LondonVārta #syquraishi #GyaneshKumar #ElectionCommission

We should get the name of all those personnel inside. None should be spared when this government goes!
It is 10:40 pm at night. Delhi Police Parliament Street Thana is not letting a delegation enter the police station. We are asking where are @neha_aisa and @abhijeet_dipke ? How can they detain a woman beyond sunset? If she is arrested they must disclose the details.

Ya exactly why you don't want citizens to know the law! And exactly why we want everyone to learn law!
INTERESTING: “If every citizen becomes a journalist, it will create problems for all,” says CJI Surya Kant. With a mobile phone, every citizen can now document events and hold power to account. Not everyone is a professional journalist, but every citizen has a right to free expression. Your Lordships, stand by the CONSTITUTION, not STATE POWER!🙏

Nobody would browbeat you...coz when you get beaten... it won't be brows🤣
“We are not sitting in ivory towers. We know what statements they make outside and what they say in Court. We know everything,” CJI Surya Kant said.

The intellectual sleight of hand to categorise attack and heckle together is amusing. Nobody was attacked, an NDTV reporter was heckled. The citizens are entitled to heckle a reporter from a channel that peddles hatred and venom against them on behalf of the government.
To attack, heckle or abuse field reporters doing their job is condemnable. Protesters do their cause a disservice by targeting journalists reporting live when tempers are running high. The right to protest and the right to report on it are both essential freedoms — neither should come at the cost of intimidation or abuse. Proud of NDTV’s army of reporters, holding firm and telling the story calmly and confidently, undeterred by the noise and abuse around them. In solidarity with the right to report, to protest and to express without fear of vilification or abuse. @ndtv

Well said Manisha @MnshaP English TV News can’t pass the buck and look the other way anymore. They must accept responsibility for the destruction they have heaped upon themselves and on news. Anchors, panelists, talking heads and spokespeople of parties have made 9 pm news time a joke & mockery of journalism. @thenewsminute and @newslaundry are successful because we believe journalism is a public good. @dhanyarajendran
On the public anger against TV media: the average person on the street is not responding to individual reporters, they don't know their bylines or body of work— but what TV news has come to mean. And so it ceases to matter whether every channel has good reporters, ofc they do, but their presence alone cannot repair the damage done night after night on primetime. Owners and editors need to answer for what they have been putting on air, and their role in making the streets unsafe for their own anchors/reporters. Meanwhile, even the harshest critics of Godi must know what's unfolding now on the streets is HARASSMENT for clicks/content — the exact thing TV news channels promoted for TRPs. This is exactly what repulsed us about TV news, and this is qualitatively different from a protestor's RIGHT TO CHOOSE to disengage. If those of us in digital media support this content-baazi in the name of some comeuppance or even journalism, we're ushering in our own demise.
