The DATA Network and Trace are joining the Sui stack, bringing a live supply of rights-cleared AI training data to infrastructure built for AI workloads.
With 250M+ receipts already recorded by Trace, AI labs will be able to source real-world data with verifiable provenance, while @WalrusProtocol provides the underlying storage layer.
Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in the DATA Network, establishing the largest institutional stake in the network, alongside the continuing holdings of PIP Labs and the DATA Foundation. Furthering the alignment, SY Lee, founder of the DATA Network and CEO of PIP Labs, joins Sui Foundation as Strategic Advisor.
In the coming months:
▸ The DATA Network will be upgraded to run as a protocol natively on Sui
▸ Walrus becomes the default storage layer for DATA Foundation apps
▸ $DATA remains the token of the DATA protocol

Its movements produce sound, and the information it collects feeds a simple language prediction system that writes new text below the original page. The title points to web crawlers, the bots that move through the internet collecting data.

what I find interesting is how it brings the idea of internet bots crawling through data to life. you actually get to watch the process unfold through the art

for licensed AI data to be trustworthy, buyers need to be able to verify its source and know that only authorized people can access it.
having the right permissions and being able to trace where the data came from is what makes the difference, not just calling it “rights cleared”

I think what stands out in this piece is that every contribution can be traced back to its source, with a clear record of who provided it and where it came from.
that’s what makes provenance useful. it’s not just about having the data, but being able to verify its origin and track the people behind it.
I like that they’re explaining what people actually need to know instead of just hyping things up.
provenance is all about being able to trace data back to its source, so being open about what is changing and what’s staying the same is a good place to start.
Seal takes this one step further by keeping data encrypted under specific policies, so the contributor’s terms stay attached to the file.
It’s not enough to say AI training data is rights-cleared, those permissions need to be respected and enforced too.
AI is only as good as the data it learns from. labs need to know where their training data comes from and whether it’s actually cleared for use.
without that, they’re just building on uncertainty and this is where verifiable provenance comes in
