We've been Quilt investors @lowercarbon since leading their seed, but until becoming a customer this summer it hadn't sunk in how much easier their hardware makes life for HVAC installers. Shipping software for those same partners will entrench Quilt even deeper in the network.
We are launching Quilt Tools, a permanent home for partner-facing tooling featuring the most advanced remote diagnostics platform ever made for residential HVAC. I talk internally about Quilt’s 3 Superpowers and this launch today ties all 3 together beautifully: *Superpower 1, Physical AI*. Every Quilt system has 10x as many sensors and 500x more computing power than the closest competitor. That data, that only Quilt has, and the ability to do sophisticated computation on it like system performance prediction and thermal modelling, is what makes this possible. It’s how we predict precisely when a system is going to break or tell an installer that they accidentally crossed wires or that they oversized an install. And the data is bidirectional – not only can our partners remotely understand the system, they often can remotely *fix* it as well. You’ve seen this capability in our OTAs that increase system capacity. This launch greatly expands those capabilities. The result is faster installations, fewer callbacks, and more comfortable homes – which saves money for both homeowners and partners. *Superpower 2, Product*. Quilt is at its core a product company. We care a *lot* about great user-centric design, thoughtful execution, and quality. Quilt is staffed by people who have built some of the most used and loved software platforms in the world. We have taken all that experience to create a top tier enterprise software platform in a space that had never received this level of TLC. Wait, did I just say we are launching an enterprise SaaS platform in 2026?? Yes – because what makes it powerful and unique is our fleet of connected systems and the data it produces, which no amount of token spend can ever reproduce. Coding Agents have greatly *deepened* our ability to produce a great product with unique and defensible value here, not reduced it. *Superpower 3, Partner Network*. Our channel partners and distribution network are our third superpower. Through them we have thousands of people in the field selling and installing Quilt every day. These are many of the best home services companies in North America. They are the face of Quilt and we hold just as high of a bar for partner performance and success as we do for our homeowner experience and products. And that’s 100% the focus of this launch – give our *partners* superpowers. We only succeed when they succeed and we want to give them every possible advantage to delight customers, grow their business, and accelerate heat pump adoption. Big thanks to all our design partners who provided early feedback and are already using Quilt Tools in their daily work – this is for you. Hear from one of them, ARS Blueflame in Seattle, in my first reply below.

Just signed up to get this amazing heat pump system in our NH home. To my New England peeps - we NEED this here so we can ditch our oil boilers. If you’re ready for heat pumps, pre-order yours today so we can convince Quilt to come to New England ASAP.

Super excited to share what my oldest pal @prlambert and his team have been working on. I still remember the catchup call where Paul told me this was what he wanted to work on next, amazing to see how far they've come. techcrunch.com/2024/04/16/qu…

Day 122 in startup land: A lot of folks here have suggested building a Twitter competitor not run by Elon. What would this take? Some 1-3 days. Others say $50M. I costed it out. I think it would take 8 months to build and ~$7M. Details in this GSheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets…

Today calls for a heat pump. So does tomorrow, the next day, and the rest of the week. Because modern-day heat pumps provide reliable heating, even in cold winter temperatures.

Renewables are unstoppable now. More than 80% of new global capacity additions in 2021 were from solar (50%) wind (25%) & hydro (7%) compared to only 15% fossil generation provided by gas (11%) & coal (4%). Great visuals and data by BloombergNEF assets.bbhub.io/professional…

Unimaginable heat in China 🇨🇳 The longevity and intensity of the heatwave is hard to comprehend. Too many heat records to count, both day and night. Beibei hit 45°C for two consecutive and some places not falling below 34°C at night. The heat is ongoing...

Massively under-appreciated point: Shifting from gas boilers to electric heat pumps would cut heating gas demand by two-fifths, even when running on 100% gas power, because burning fossil fuels is wasteful and heat pumps are magic* Allow me to explain…
