Welcome to the Academy Professor Knowles! Your contributions in biomaterials and tissue engineering will help us make a lasting impact, to engineer better lives.🚀
I am incredibly proud to have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. I join 73 other leading figures in the fields of engineering and technology to be elected this year: lnkd.in/esZu_iDy @ucl @ucleastman #RAEngFellows
Glad to have finally got this paper across the line. Originally submitted back in June 2024. Well done Robyn Macartney for all the work on this. It a robust RP-HPLC method for measuring fluconazole and clobetasol simultaneously.

A paper I had the privilege of being involved with on the work we did using the CAM model and its use in investigating bone formation. Available here: doi.org/10.1021/acsmacrolett…
We've recently had a review paper published in Bioactive Materials on the adaptive immunity of materials and their role in tissue engineering and wound healing. Give it a read here: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Some really nice work from Daniela Carta at Surrey Uni and collaborators that we helped out with on sol-gel templating in phosphate based sol-gels:

and many thanks to the examiners @anita_ghag and @MikeTCook for putting him through his paces!
Really pleased Mohammad Aljaber passed his PhD viva. did a great job of investigating GelMA based hydrogels for muscle regeneration for his thesis along with using alignment to improve myogenesis. Well done Mohammad and thanks to 2nd supervisor

Well done to @NikAliaa for her first, first-author, publication from her PhD that investigated the generation of a novel PHA/PHB substrate (mdpi.com/2310-2861/10/1/85)! Great to have worked with collaborators from abroad as well as intra-UCL expertise @LadyBSilva @michaelsulu

Nadine, hun, we weren’t even allowed a cuppa in the same room as eachother to debrief after a patient died. And believe me, nowt slumps morale quite like powerlessly watching someone die.
Because the role of a leader during a crisis is to keep morale high amongst those who were working 17hr days 7/7 as morale slumps.
No10 was the engine room of the country, it was important to keep people turning up and working and saying goodbye to someone who was leaving was an act of good crisis leadership and management.
