In 2014 we published the first large-scale study of suicidality in autism, subsequently widely replicated, revealing that 1 in 4 autistic people have planned or attempted suicide. That’s why I’m very concerned about the impact of the media coverage on Professor Jason Arday who is autistic. He has been accused of plagiarism and he was cleared of any academic misconduct following a rigorous investigation by Liverpool John Moores University. And yet he continues to be systematically discredited over every detail of his life, daily. We should of course always investigate plagiarism to protect academic standards. However, I cannot stand by and watch when an autistic man is on the ground and the kicking continues. This is relentless bullying of a vulnerable autistic man and raises safe-guarding issues. It’s time to stop.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Despite university clearance, Arday's PhD thesis contains dozens of near-verbatim unattributed passages from prior works, and a journal corrected his paper for missing citations to adapted text including participant quotes. retractionwatch.com/2026/07/27/cam… mdpi.com/2076-0760/12/1…

Yesterday, I spoke on phone to Mrs. Gifty Arday to convey deepest condolences on the tragic loss of her son, Professor Jason Atta Kwei Arday. I informed Mrs. Arday that President John Mahama commiserates with her family at this exceedingly difficult time and has personally signed a letter of condolence which is being delivered by our High Commissioner to the UK. Prof. Arday was a great source of pride and inspiration to Ghanaians in his ancestral home, and many across the world. This is indeed our collective and terribly painful loss; we shall keep his family, students and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. As I assured Mrs. Arday in our solemn telephone conversation, Ghana will be present at his funeral to pay our respects. May Prof. Arday’s legacy help create a fairer, loving and just world.

Replies muted by BBC. He was subjected to relentless pressure despite everyone knowing he was vulnerable. A serious inquiry into the media should take place in this sorry story. RIP.

In the dead of night the Scots arrived at the Airbnb across the street. Decked out and playing the pipes at 6:30 am. So it begins…

This is the best one so far!
GEORGE SQUARE REDEVELOPMENT DELAYED: The iconic Glasgow city centre space is now set to have Scotland's first 'Sun-Dome'. This structure will artificially reproduce the effects of the sun's rays, using technology developed by Dr Pealiwalli at the University of Glasgow (1/2)

I’m noticing something I can’t unsee. The people with the most influence in education often didn’t spend decades in classrooms. And the people who did… aren’t the ones shaping the conversation.
