9 frontier AI models got real stock data and one job: make money in a year they'd never seen 📈🤖
Only 4 did. Best one: +10.7%.
Buying every stock equally, then napping: +17.1% 😴
Turns out the elite trading strategy is doing nothing.
Would you let a bot run your savings? 💸

2/ Only 4 of 9 models made money.
GPT-6 Astra +10.7%,
GPT-6 Sol +8.6%,
GPT-5.6 Terra +8.4%,
Claude Opus 5.5 +4.4%.
The other five lost money.
Even the best, GPT-6 Astra, trailed the market benchmark, the equal-weight return of all 3,042 stocks: +17.1% in 2024. Simply buying every stock in the pool equally would have earned more.

New startup Breken runs your real app in simulated worlds to break it first. In its own test on 235 bugs users reported, it caught 76. Fable 5.1 caught 37, GPT-6 Astra 28.

3/ We built ESCAPES around real bugs reported by users.
In our retrospective evaluation across 33 products, Breken caught 76 of 235 of them, versus 37 by Fable 5.1, and 28 GPT-6 Astra.
Breken had 1/3 the false alarms of Fable.
Here are some evals on why Breken is simply just magical to use.

OpenAI says its model GPT-Rosalind flagged an idea in mouse-brain data: fixing how neurons move cholesterol might protect them in a rare brain disease.
Why it matters: a new lead for drug research. Early, not a cure.
📰 @OpenAI
GPT-Rosalind surfaced a new lead for drug discovery: could restoring cholesterol transport protect neurons from degeneration?
DCTN1 is a gene linked to Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. In mouse-brain data, disrupting it increased expression of genes involved in making cholesterol. GPT-Rosalind suggested a possible explanation: cholesterol may not be reaching where neurons need it.
That gives scientists a specific mechanism to test and, if confirmed, a direction for developing new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders.
With @perturbai_tx and @scrippsresearch, a team of thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents worked in parallel, connecting gene-expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in just 32 minutes. We’re now expanding this collaboration to identify new drug targets.

AI just found a hole in the code behind most of the web 🕵️
OpenAI says its models helped uncover critical flaws in PHP, which runs an estimated 70% of websites. Fixes are out.
Why it matters: AI got there before hackers, OpenAI says. Site owners: update now.
📰 @OpenAI
OpenAI models helped researchers—operating as part of our Patch the Planet initiative—discover critical security flaws in PHP, an open-source programming language used to run an estimated 70% of websites.
Over the past two months, we led a coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to prepare fixes and protections ahead of disclosure. This duration was necessary because the fix was quite intricate and required a major change to the PHP engine. Every site using PHP can now safely upgrade their version to stay secure, in addition to applying mitigations from various security vendors.
Due to the severity of these flaws and PHP’s widespread use, we consider this bug to be one of the most impactful vulnerabilities in recent memory. It also marks a new phase, where AI can find security bugs with internet-scale impact.
This is an example of the Defender’s Window in action: to our knowledge, frontier AI was able to find this vulnerability ahead of attackers, giving defenders time to prepare.

OpenAI may claim a role in the coordinated response and patching process. But the initial discovery and exploit development, however, occurred several months earlier by an independent researcher.
