As a York resident I am very shocked by this decision. This is not a York I recognise (I find residents to be community spirited). I am so sorry this is happening. I have hopes the decision will be successfully challenged; but the hurt that this decision was ever made will remain

I'm honestly sickened that Councillors running @CityofYork voted to exclude Blue Badge holders (disabled residents) from the city centre without first putting in place full mitigation. Well done @YorkLabour for opposing. There is one word for it - discrimination. #NotInMyName

The security argument is pitiful. Certainly York has enough tourist footfall to be A potential terrorist target, but it’s not THE target. Are they going to pedestrianise London? It’s just plain nimbyism. They don’t like disabled people(‘s cars) cluttering up their pretty streets.

I grew up near York as a disabled teen, and if it wasn’t for the blue badge access, I would not have been able to go into the city centre. Even my college course required us to go into the city centre for some assignments. This decision is discriminatory.
