Nearly every grocery store turkey is one breed, and it can't mate.
The commercial bird is the Broad Breasted White, and it's bred for breast meat. A 2009 Penn State report put it at more than 99% of grocery store turkeys. A USDA research magazine said in 1998 that the size difference between toms and hens makes natural mating difficult and that virtually all hens are artificially inseminated. The Merck Veterinary Manual says large, heavily muscled birds are unable to physically complete mating.
A hen reaches market weight in about 14 weeks at roughly 15 to 17 pounds. A tom takes about 18 weeks and comes in around 38 to 41 pounds. The US raised 194 million turkeys in 2025, according to USDA, and is forecast at about 199 million this year, with Minnesota raising the most.

‼️ The New York Times calls Brave a burglar and an AI "fence", accusing it in a lawsuit of selling scraped journalism to AI labs including Anthropic, xAI and Perplexity.
The complaint says Brave copied 30 billion+ webpages with a crawler it never named, so sites could not block it, then sold that index to AI companies.
Brave's own blog said in 2023 that Anthropic used its search API to train Claude 2.
The Times says Brave's browser even has a "Paywall blocker", promoted as a way to "Bypass Paywalls".
It says Brave made $100M+ reselling publishers' work while publishers got nothing.

AI bros talking about AI before yesterday’s election vs after yesterday’s election
The differing perceptions of AI are wild. The country just voted against data centers on 40+ provisions nationwide and hates AI. (Plenty of legitimate gripes.) But most of those people are just unaware that AI is finding a new cancer cure or treatment weekly, going through decades of peer reviewed data and uncovering mountains of errors, that its correcting, throughout every academic field. Replacing billions of man hours of drudgery. Closest thing to a “miracle” I’ve ever witnessed. When I talk to people outside of tech/VC, they’re just unaware of all of it.
