Had a really great flight today Sat next to a doctor. We started chatting, hit it off. ~20 minutes in, she asked what I do (more specific than "tech"). To which I awkwardly said, have you heard of ChatGPT? To which she said no 😳 I explained it at a high level, alluding to how it will probably end up being a really useful productivity tool in her practice. She was intrigued. So I asked if she wanted to see a demo. When I demo ChatGPT, I usually start with a basic task: "Tell me how to do CPR." Then, I ask what feedback the person would have for that result. We give it to ChatGPT, and I show how it can adapt and respond to feedback. (Apparently we don't use mouth-to-mouth anymore!) Then, I ask what is something they write on a daily basis that's a ton of work. "Write a work release for someone with migraines" Then at that point, I pause. Explain a little more what's going on. I like to suggest if there's something really hard - that it probably won't get right. This time, it was a rare disease. It got it mostly right (the literature is apparently mixed!). At this point, ideas start flowing. In my experience, a lot of people have a fuzzy conception of AI. Mostly from sci-fi. But when they see ChatGPT actually start to be able to do some of this stuff. And then kind of understand what's happening, their eyes light up. In case you've forgotten - the ChatGPT breakthrough hasn't been the tech. It's been how easy it is to understand and see the tangible value. For everyone. And to Jane (will keep anonymous), I really appreciated the conversation.
