Dividends are, of course, taxed at a *higher* rate than earnings because they have already faced corporation tax.
But no income is 'unearned' - it's compensation for risk-taking. If you want anyone to invest, which we need for growth, then you need to incentivise risk.
How we tax income from April 2027. For most people earned income from work is still taxed the most heavily. Unearned income from shares taxed the least. For higher/top rate taxpayers interest on savings taxed the most, unearned capital gains and dividends the least. 14 different rates and 4 different tax free allowances. NB I know the top two lines are different in Scotland.
