When is someone going to report the name of the property managers who ordered the work? Because I and a lot of other New Yorkers have some thoughts to communicate to them.
One of the UWS barn owl fledglings roosted in the open yesterday after its nest was destroyed. This young, inexperienced bird didn’t know to conceal itself and was mobbed by songbirds all day. Thankfully all five fledglings were later accounted for. Cont’d #birdcpp

Alicia Malone signing her “cozy” movie-themed mystery MURDER AT THE MOVIES this morning. Got my copy signed! Alicia is always such a joy to be around, and her book (which I’ve started) is a fun read. #TCMClassicCruise

F. Scott Fitzgerald was the first writer to tackle #MGM's film adaptation of #TheWomen. Outlining Clare Boothe's play, he described Crystal Allen (#JoanCrawford) as "a low-grade bitch" whose "vulgar pugnaciousness is stronger than Mary's well-bred misery." #TCMParty #nextbook

“(Louise) had a fabulous personality, and yet not one to help herself in any way, not one to self pity, not wanting anyone to pity her, she just was strong, a very strong woman, but whose strength annihilated her...I always felt she was a lost soul.” — David Diamond, friend

I wrote about the time my great-grandmother, Sarah, had the chance to stand in for Lucille Ball during the production of Forever, Darling (1956), an opportunity that all but fell into her lap. Link below:

Naomi Johnson models a Dobbs hat for a photo by Alfred Cheney Johnston, 1929. When he wasn’t taking revealing “undraped” photos of Ziegfeld Follies performers, Johnston was also a commercial portraitist for a variety of advertisers. (Fashion Friday Thread)

It's my best gal Carole Lombard's birthday anniversary, so in that spirit, I'm resharing the interstitial I narrated for @tcm a few years ago. It sums up my feelings about her earthy and sexy movie star charisma and her impish comedic sensibility.

From pre-codes to comedies, Myrna Loy could do it all. Men loved her; women wanted to be her. But there was more to this beloved actress than Hollywood glitz and glam. We celebrate the Queen of Hollywood Mondays this month with all-day tributes on TCM.

Sharing again: Anita Loos on Jean Harlow during the production of Red-Headed Woman (1932). Harlow was aware of her privileged upbringing, didn’t assign much meaning to it, and tried to play it down for relatability.
It's ahistorical to suggest that studio era stardom was ever accessible to the average Joe. Sure, there were many stars from working class backgrounds, but equally, many others came from privilege. For every Crawford, Gable and Stanwyck there was a Bogart, Harlow and Barrymore.
