The story begins with the final episode, but takes a very different turn. In this version, the Duke’s wound never heals. Instead, it continues to threaten his life, leaving him with no hope of recovery. As a result, he feels compelled to confront the Vega Empire alone in space. Before leaving, however, he writes farewell letters to everyone he holds dear, as though preparing for his final journey. In his letter to Koji, he tells him that he does not have much time left to live and asks him to take care of Maria. As for Hikaru, he writes her a heartfelt letter expressing his gratitude and appreciation for her kind heart and sincere feelings. He wishes that he had been born on Earth… “Perhaps…” And that is where his letter to Hikaru ends, leaving those unfinished words filled with painful emotions and unanswered questions. 😢 Throughout the story, the artist also illustrates the quiet, intimate moments the Duke and Hikaru shared on Earth, capturing the warmth and closeness they experienced together. In his letter to Maria, he asks her to stop crying, reassures her that Koji will stand by her side, and tells her that he wants her to be happy. ☹️ Before departing, the Duke remembers the tragic fates of both Naida and Rubina, who left this world never to return. He wonders whether he, too, might meet the same fate. In the final scene, he boards his spacecraft and heads deep into space to confront Vega. Then, a brilliant flash of light appears in the vastness of space… And that is where the story ends, without the author revealing the Duke’s ultimate fate. Did he sacrifice himself by detonating his spacecraft, or is he still alive somewhere out there? 😢😢😢 As for my personal opinion, I honestly cannot bear such a tragic ending for the Duke and his sister, Maria. I truly wish I could see a happier ending for him, one in which he returns to Earth with his sister, to the home that welcomed them, embraced them, and offered them help and support until the very end.
