Mike is spot on!! Players have to stop relying on the iPad, and use their brains! It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you’d just pay attention
Mike Piazza says baseball has become so obsessed with analytics and data that people have stopped actually watching the game “Well, and I think you would attest to this, right? For me, when I was managing and guys would come in after a pitcher was being taken out or changed, and they would come in and look and say, ‘Well, what’s he throw?’ I’m like, ‘Dude, just watch him.’ You know, watch the guy throw.” “When I was in Dodger Stadium, I would come out before I warmed up, I would sit on the bench, and the visiting bullpen was right out in right field. Whoever was pitching, I would just sit there for five minutes, watch the slider, watch the changeup. And I could see, and you learn a lot by watching. And I think we’ve computed the game so much into data that nobody watches the game.” “And as a catcher, you know this, right? If a guy’s hot, if he’s not, if he’s chasing, all these things you have to have right here. I mean, I would watch if a guy’s crowding the plate, I know he likes the ball in. If he’s away, I know he likes the ball away.” “It’s just certain little tells as a catcher that you watch. I was watching the game the other day, a guy had a good fastball, he blows two by the guy, the guy fouls one off, he’s tardy. What does he do? He throws a slider, off-speed, and the guy gets a base hit.” “I’m like, the guy is telling you that he can’t catch up to the fastball. Now, I’m not saying you can’t throw off-speed, but you can’t throw it in the zone where the guy can get the bat on it. And then you go back and try to blow him away. So yeah, this organic sort of evolution of the game, the spontaneity is gone.” “Everything is just super, super data-computerized. And it’s a little sterile to me, it’s a little austere. But who am I? It’s just my opinion.”

This is why the game has gone downhill. If the coaches you hire are triggered when a competent coach comes, you shouldn’t have a job! Teams keep hurting the same incompetent coaches that keep failing. It’s why hitting has gone to 💩
Had to think out loud and get some thoughts off my chest! This is for all the @MLB and @MiLB guys out there who play outfield. If you are someone who is a defensive upgrade away from bein the complete player, Ive been waitin for ya! Let me show what we can accomplish! Reach out!

Barry Bonds reveals why Greg Maddux was the toughest pitcher he faced during his career "The best, I think, technician pitcher was Greg Maddux. Maddux was the best technician." "Greg Maddux knew the philosophy of hitting at the same time I understood philosophy of pitching. And Greg used it very well to his advantage." "Power pitchers are power pitchers, they're going to go to what they go to no matter what, and that's power. And eventually, that's going to catch them, because you don't have to do much, they generate the power so the ball goes further." "It's those finesse technicians that you that really can break things break you down if you're not smart."

This is the part of The game that’s been lost! The veterans passing down the timeless wisdom that can’t be measured with an iPad
Harold Reynolds says Barry Bonds could read a pitcher’s grip before the ball was thrown and tell what pitch was coming from the on-deck circle “He was in a class with guys like Roberto Alomar and Rod Carew, guys I had heard about and been around, who could read pitch grips better than anybody. Barry was on that level.” “Rod Carew was my hitting coach in Anaheim when I played for the Angels. He’d walk up and down the dugout and say, ‘You guys don’t see it. I see what y’all don’t see.’ The pitcher would be sitting there, and Rod would say, ‘Changeup.’ Next thing you know, the guy throws a changeup. I’m like, ‘He hasn’t even moved yet, Rod.’ And he’d say, ‘You guys don’t see it.’” “Barry was on that level. So as a pitcher, you’re facing a guy who is probably picking up every pitch you’re throwing.” Jake Peavy: “Barry Bonds would be in the on-deck circle against me, and he’d just be leaning there. No swing, no nothing. Just watching. Sitting there, waiting. I’m thinking, ‘Let me show him something different.’ I’m telling you, he would get off that ledge, and if you threw him a strike, it was going deep.”

This is awesome!! I’d like to see a certain 3 letter acronym technique used in playing this game 🤠🎃🧘🏼
Not only should this be part of the All-Star break, but Ichiro should compete in it every single year so that modern TTO hitters can see what real bat control looks like

Nailed it Joe!!
"Voices in the back of your head when you're in the dugout are awful." @MaddHalos believes the game nowadays would rather lose analytically than win based on feel.

Baseball is still pitching, defense and timely hitting. That still is the formula for winning. Funny how people are realizing that this still works. You can’t change the principles of the game.

Timing is a brain function and cannot be taught, but must be discovered! The last thing coaches tend to look at in this situation is vision! Is he seeing the ball out of the hand consistently? Our 🧠 predicts/ calculates info at release. Vision is critical & seldom worked on
I'm actually digging deep into a Reds prospect right now for the Reds Top 30, and my first thought was "his timing is off and will need to be fixed" But I'm still trying to figure out which of 3-4 reasons explains why that's the case. Which I think illustrates Joey's point.
