Last night, Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) told me something I keep thinking about: While Democrats may want to celebrate, they need to remember that this isn't a sporting event. This is Americans sending the strongest signal possible that they are in pain, and hurting, and want help. Now Congress needs to answer that call. It was powerful stuff, and if the party is smart they'll follow his instincts.

We're reaching out to ask for help covering $1,800 in power bills and back-due rent. I am a full-time caregiver for my mother Judy, 84, who is disabled and cannot walk, as well as a full-time caregiver for my daughter Deirdre, who is suffering from extremely painful lifetime illnesses (Arachnoiditis, Vascular EDS, and E. coli infections). Deirdre is in and out of the hospital every other week.
I have been trying my hardest to budget carefully, but my mother's social security and pension is not nearly enough to cover the bills right now, and Ukraine is unable to pay me for the work I do for them due to European laws. As a type-1 diabetic, I have been unable to find employment. Despite Deirdre's hospitalization and medications being covered, the pain clinics we go to are only partly covered, and some of them are in different cities that we have to drive to every other week.
We are hopeful that I will begin a new role in January, and that will give us enough to make it. Right now, however, we face eviction and I don't have the funds to avoid it. We would be grateful for any assistance you could provide towards our goal of $1,800. That amount will keep us in our home and keep me working hard for Judy and Deirdre.
