Ten years ago this week, Kevin Kane passed away at just 50. As founder of the Pelican Institute (@PelicanInst), he gave Louisiana something lasting.
We remember him today with gratitude.

When it cannot rain:
- Halloween Night
- Saturdays in Death Valley
When it CAN rain:
- ANY other time!
Join me in a prayer to the good Lord asking for some rain in the forecast. The farmers that feed our communities need it desperately, so please spare them a prayer!
The pattern is unmistakable.
Every time the government tries to spend to make something more affordable, it just raises the cost.
Look at this chart every time a socialist promises they will spend their way out of our affordability crisis.

Kevin was a wonderful leader. He’s deeply missed.
Ten years ago this week, we lost our founder, Kevin Kane. He loved Louisiana and believed in a brighter future for its people. We’re honored to carry his work forward.
Thank you, @QuinHillyer, for this wonderful tribute to a remarkable man.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/…

"A consensus builder rather than a bomb thrower." Perfect description of the late Kevin Kane, who led with humility and represented the best of the free-market movement. His wonderful wife Lesley is still in New Orleans, and is the city's absolute best guide to the French Quarter.

Florida’s insurance turnaround keeps gaining momentum.
Insurance losses have stabilized. Insurers are paying less for backup coverage. And Raymond James’ Kapil Bhatia says tort reform “has helped a lot.” Florida keeps showing what reform can deliver.

Three years in, @SpeakerJohnson hasn’t given in to the AI panic. He’s kept the focus on the innovation-first approach that keeps us ahead and led the House on bipartisan energy reform. Like we say at @abundanceinst, abundant energy and free innovation go together. He gets it.

Many leftist leaders seem to think they need to manage us like we’re in kindergarten, rather than citizens of a free republic who are their bosses.
This explains some amount of their annoying and illogical policies.

“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.” – P. J. O’Rourke.
P. J. O'Rourke was a libertarian, a satirist, and once dubbed "the funniest writer in America," by the Wall Street Journal. A staunch defender of individual liberty—and good scotch—P. J. wrote 21 books, three of which made the NYT's bestseller list.

More data centers don't automatically mean higher electricity bills.
In fact, research from the Electric Power Research Institute found that doubling data center capacity was associated with roughly 4% lower residential electricity rates between 2015 and 2024.
Why? Large customers can help spread the fixed costs of the electric grid across more electricity sales.
If we get policy right, growing electricity demand can help make power more affordable. Here's how we do it.
