I didn’t plan to write this song.
But last September, during the height of the U.S. election cycle, I found myself overwhelmed by one repeating thought:
“What if that were my child in the Darién Gap?”
That lawless jungle stretch between Colombia and Panama has become a deadly path for migrants—many of them unaccompanied children—seeking hope at the U.S. border. What they often find instead is unimaginable suffering, and a system that repeatedly fails them.
So I wrote “Happy It’s Not Me”—a protest song against the broken immigration policies that leave these kids vulnerable to trafficking, abuse, and silence.
And I couldn’t keep it to myself.
