Both of these things can be improved by adopting a simple strength based exercise routine and eating good quality foods (in the right quantities) They can both be done at home, and require minimal time commitment. Yet the impact it would have on your future life is immeasurable

Combining strength training with the right quality protein can both preserve and build muscle at any age, which is necessary if we want to stay strong, agile, and active as long as we live. Remember the goal is always to have a health span equal to your life span. πŸ’›

The research is clear. Making changes at any age (even 60, 70 or 80) can have a substantial improvement in your health and longevity. And it’s never too late to start.

Eating badly or not moving for one day isn’t going to change the trajectory of your life. But repeated daily over a long enough time horizon and your life (and you) will look very different than you do today. But equally the reverse is also true.

Exercising for 1 day is not going to mean much long term, but doing it consistently for years will take your health and your ability on an entirely different trajectory 10 years from now.

Muscle burns upto 7 times the calories of fat just to be maintained. This inefficiency drains your resources, and so, if you’re not using them like you should, your body will happily give them up to conserve energy and put it to use elsewhere. Stay strong

Something that most older adults do well is walking. But whilst its great for your heart, lungs and circulation it does little in the way of preventing muscle loss & bone loss. I recommend all older adults add in weekly resistance training as an addition to your walking routine

One of the greatest worries of growing old is losing independence and becoming a burden on others. In doing so not only do you lose your control, but you lose your identity. Things you could once do that defined who you are as a person are no longer possible.

The main way to stop this from happening isΒ to keep your muscles strong and maintained for use everyday. Remember muscles are there for action and movement. And by not using them, actions and movements become more difficult and eventually stop.

Keep strong, keep moving, and keep independent.

Strength and quality of life are synonymous. The stronger you are the more independent you will be for longer

One in 2 women & one in 3 men in the UK do not exercise. This is why you’re expected to lose muscle & feel pain when you enter your 50’s, because unfortunately losing muscle and feeling pain is now the norm

Your reminder that it's much better to not eat the 500 calories in the first place than it is to eat it, and then spend 1 hour performing the 'best weight loss exercise' to burn it off.

When it comes to weight loss, the most important exercise you can perform is the exercise of restraint.

You can trace every overweight persons problem right back to the choices they make everyday. Immobility is mostly the same.

Strength training is needed as much for preservation as it is for progression.

Most people think that its only required if you are looking to get stronger and add some form of progress, without realising that inactivity itself causes us to lose up to 3% of muscle mass per year.

It doesn’t take much, but some form of strength training each week is needed to signal to your body you want to maintain the muscle that you have. That’s baseline. Then, if you want more than that, you simply add it in.

Age related muscle loss can be significantly accelerated through poor lifestyle choices all of which will suppress testosterone levels, increase cortisol and signal to the body to offload necessary muscle that you need for future years.
