I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be joining UT Austin Computer Science (@UTCompSci ) as an Assistant Professor, starting Jan 2027!
I'm recruiting PhD students for Fall 2027, postdocs, and researchers at all levels:

I’ll continue my work (yudai-tanaka.com) in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and start the Symbiotic Interfaces Lab, where we’ll explore how computational systems & humans can co-adapt to augment human sensorimotor and cognitive abilities. 🦾🧠

Starting soon in "haptics and XR" session at P1 - Room 119, #CHI2026 lots of interesting papers in this session, starting at 9am
How hard is it to learn a force you felt by muscle stimulation? And could we ever use this to build systems that teach you new physical skills requiring controlled forces? Our master student Mithil Guru is presenting this at #CHI2026. Tue 9AM "Haptics + XR" session at P1-119
"What if AI could show you how to perform a physical task through your own body?"
I am excited to share our latest #CHI2026 Best Paper where we demonstrate an Embodied-AI for physical tasks using muscle stimulation

Text or video is not only form AI can take.
In embodied-ai.tech (#CHI2026, Best Paper 🏆) we create an embodied AI that acts via muscle stimulation to perform physical tasks: e.g., place a bike on a bus rack and more!

Well... a new chapter is starting! I'm over the moon to be joining @MITEECS / @MIT_CSAIL as an Assistant Professor, starting Fall 2026. 🌕 (1/5)
Very excited to see our work covered by @IEEESpectrum! I'm wondering if anyone tried to listen to the video's soundtrack more closely 🤔
Our #CHI2024 paper on "split body" is featured at @IEEESpectrum 's videos: spectrum.ieee.org/video-frid…
This is a work by my PhD students @romainnith and @yun_yh_ that explores how muscle stimulation can help you multitask—freeing up your mind while the stimulation does the rest!

.@romainnith presenting his muscle stimulation-based multi-tasking system, while himself multi-tasking to stir the bowl during the talk, being controlled by Yun, his co author, from the audience seat 💪👏😂 #CHI2024 @UChicagoCS
We will be presenting this paper on Tuesday at 9:45am in 313B! Please join! If you haven't tried it yet, we also have 2 more demo sessions on Tuesday: 10:15-11:00am and 5:30-7:30pm
Absolute tour de force of a demo by @romainnith Yun Ho and Jacob Serfaty. Participants hands are automated by muscle stimulation to stir the waffle batter while they write an essay at the same time. Then, well, you get to eat your waffle! Come try it tomorrow + see the talk! 1/2
Just landed in Hawaii and I'm excited to present my latest paper SplitBody at #CHI2024! We also have a demo, come try it out on Monday or just say hi :)
four new #chi2024 papers from our lab, demonstrated in one go: youtu.be/fQsMXy0dNk0
work by @_yudaitanaka (brain stimulation = haptics), @romainnith (multitasking with muscle stimulation), @tengshanyuan (more dexterity w/ electrotactile) & @alexjmazursky (liquid friction) 1/

Join us tomorrow @siggraph! I am super excited to demo JumpMod again :D
New article about JumpMod (a project my PhD student @romainnith ) that creates a sense of vertical acceleration (e.g., jumping higher) at @engadget (engadget.com/the-jumpmod-hap…) apropos our demo at #SIGGRAPH2023 (starting tomorrow, come try it!)
JumpMod, presented at #CHI2023, was covered by @newscientist! 🤩

Humm.. I wanted to tweet that #CHI2023 is over and then bump into my student @romainnith who's still demo'ing :) the perks or a fully standalone #haptics prototype !
Thank you all for joining our demo booth! Today I realized that so many people did not get the chance to try the backpack... So I will be walking around with it on Thursday at #CHI2023. Please come to me and try our backpack one last time!
Very excited to present our #CHI2023 paper: "JumpMod: Haptic Backpack that Modifies Users' Perceived Jump" today at the Body Haptics session. This haptic backpack modifies the user perceived jumps in both VR & physical experiences, i.e., jump higher 1/10 youtu.be/57izT0UZ77M
The talk will happen on the 24th of April in the Body Haptics session at 5pm Hall D! We will also be demoing JumpMod at #CHI2023, please come check it out! 9/10
Finally, a special thanks to my advisor @plopesresearch and my co-authors Jacob Serfaty, Sam Shatzkin and @bettercallalan! 10/10
