In the summer of 2025, when the camp opened, the heat in the Everglades would reach between 105F and 110F.
The government said detainees were kept in air-conditioned tents and never disclosed the use of outdoor cages. Even so, detainees were distressed about the conditions indoors. Inside, they described bugs the size of their fists, fluctuating temperatures and a lack of access to attorneys.

Florida has adjusted its vendor contracts for Alligator Alcatraz by hundreds of millions of dollars since closing the site.
FDEM is now asking the state leg for an extra $188M for the emergency fund paying for these contracts to cover “pending invoices”
