Great question. My rough framing is that AI has given engineering a 100x boost, product 10x, and design 5x. That imbalance creates real strain: engineers can merge lots of individual changes while the overall UX gets less coherent, and designers burn out trying to keep up. Design is a deep craft. It takes thought and a view of the whole experience. We haven’t given designers tooling that matches how quickly we can now produce code. That’s why we’re building Inspect for designers. The ambition is to give them the 200x boost. Then engineers can be the ones trying to keep up :)

My personal site is a throwback to the classic Apple System 1 vibe and just added a new Duff AI app that allows anyone to vibe code a new app for the site using various [cheaper] models. Looking forward to the fun stuff people will cook up! ryanduffy.me

Dev notes: LLM sessions are new Github branches, iterations are commits pushed to Vercel and deployed as Preview, then injected back into the app as a rendered preview. Submissions create a PR for me to review, which add the app once I merge. Turnkey

Mother's day tip: help your kids express their love for their moms by using Grok to generate a themed mother's day mad lib for them to fill out. Mixture of funny and meaningful responses. Here's mine, with a cooking show theme: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

Startup founders: don’t give out VP titles early on, it causes heartburn later. Use more nebulous titles. Wait till phase 2 or 3 when you need to scale operations and need people who have done that before… that’s the time to assemble the VP crew.

Listened to Linear’s interview series on quality and one main takeaway is that small teams of talented people can do a lot. Another is to iterate quickly on things that really matter. Sounds simple, but hard to do in real life

I think insights that would be helpful from these @linear interviews would have to do with getting to escape velocity if you aren’t inside the nexus of the most elite software builders and vcs in the world

As a designer, specialization is a luxury that comes from extra time and extra people. When you don’t have that luxury, reframe as quickly as you can and do whatever it takes to make the most of every opportunity. Entitlement will rob you of growth. Inspired by @DannPetty

The best way to spark adoption of a design system is to design beautiful and functional things with it that inspire people from all the various orgs. It’s sales in the form of design

Decaf sucks. Today I’m unsucking it. I'm hella stoked to introduce Wimp Decaf wimpdecaf.com. Jump on that waitlist! Most decaf drinkers are tired of sacrificing taste and quality. Most companies use low-quality beans and toxic decaffeination practices, leading to bland results and an unhealthy lack of choice. Delicious coffee should be enjoyed any time of day. It should be as dialed at 8pm as it is at 8am. Where are the great tasting healthy options?? Beer and water industries were facing similar issues. Now look at Athletic Brewing and Liquid Death. Decaf is another underdog and coming out to play with the cool kids. Welcome Wimp. We choose our beans with craft care. Our partners in Guatemala, Colombia, and beyond grow pure, clean, and wildly sophisticated beans. We use safe, flavorful methods like Swiss Water, Ethyl Acetate (a naturally occurring reaction in fermentation processes), and Carbonic Maceration (coming from the wine industry) for decaffeination, ensuring clean and delicious decaf. “IDK what wizardry you are doing but this is definitely better than any other decafs that I’ve had.” Jeff Sheldon (@ugmonk) Wimp is more than just coffee. It’s a posse of people shaking off hustle culture. We’re choosing to enjoy life, work out loud, and have fun. Calm as fuck is a common reply to “how you doin'?” around here. We’re building Wimp in public, embracing every awkward misstep and pro move. It’s like a reality show, but with less drama and more coffee. Why call it Wimp? Someone once said decaf was for the weak. Whatever, dude. We’re owning it, and making decaf the underdog hero. We’re turning what culture says about hustle on it’s head. We're about enjoying great coffee any-freaking-time you want. Join us at wimpdecaf.com and be part of the relax revolution. (too much?🤣) No more chemical-laden, tasteless brews. We’re here for quality, clean beans, and heaps of fun. Stay tuned for more of my personal story over this coming month as we move toward our full launch.

It’s challenging to create a high performing team that also has room for mistakes and growth, but it begins with trust and healthy relationships.

Working on the mobile design system at @ww_us and am reminded of the many layers of thought and communication that need to go into it:

And finally, processes for changes to the system over time that cascade to each of those audiences. Simple 🤪
