Replit Agent switched from Temporal to Restate for three main reasons
- Lower latency and cost efficiency:
Restate executes durable steps inline, adding just a few milliseconds of overhead per step. This allows Replit to make thousands of operations durable without the overhead of scheduling each one as a separate activity.
- Unique building blocks for stateful, concurrent agents:
Virtual Objects and Durable Coroutines simplify coordinating long-lived agent sessions, parallel subagents, user steering, approvals, and cancellation, and make the architecture easier to extend.
- Restate BYOC:
Fully managed deployments in Replit's own cloud account keep sensitive data private and support both its multi-tenant cloud stack and dedicated enterprise offerings.
With Restate, Replit can use fast, durable execution inside the agent loop, giving them a simpler, more resilient architecture.
Replit now runs tens of Restate cells across regions and availability zones, and handled a major promotional traffic spike of nearly 25 000 durable actions per second per cell a few weeks after migration.

i forked Excalidraw and added some new features :)
🐟 draw fish and watch them swim
🏀 draw a course and drop a ball through it
with @Replit Cloud Agents, you can pull in an existing repo, make your changes, and open a PR. here’s how:
1. gave the agent the Excalidraw repo and asked it to get the app running
2. described the features i wanted, tried them in the preview, and asked for tweaks
3. created my own fork on GitHub and granted the Replit GitHub App access
4. asked the agent to run the checks and open a PR against my fork
here’s the PR it created ↓

Trying out the new "Repos" feature of @Replit .
Pulled Deepseek harness and set it up as a project in Replit.
Asked the agent to take the reins and work on a project for me.
This is something on a different level 👀
Not sure what I'm gonna do with THIS one, but I just know that this is going to open up so many possibilities...

Imagine an alien species lands on Earth. They’re incredibly intelligent, especially good with software and computers, and mostly want to help humans get things done.
But they’re also unpredictable. They can misunderstand your instructions, and because they’re so powerful, a small misunderstanding can cause tremendous harm.
How do we integrate them into the economy and unlock their productivity while minimizing the risk?
You build a habitat where they can do great work, with boundaries that contain the damage when things go wrong.
That’s how we at Replit think about AI agents.
Today we’re sharing our secure Agent Habitat architecture: our blueprint for integrating agents into the enterprise.

For @Replit to become a Self-Driving Company, we have been building a strong policy and network level enforcement that goes beyond traditional guardrails.
Giving agents more responsibilities means policies enforced in all layers of the system to keep humans in control.
For years, Replit has built security into the infrastructure where agents work.
Last week is one example: Our existing isolation protections prevented exploitation of the disclosed kernel vulnerabilities.
We also patched affected tooling and deployed firewall protections centrally, reducing remediation work for developers.

An agent investigating an issue may need to read code, inspect o11y tools, and prepare a fix. Each step raises questions about access.
Who started the work? Which systems can the agent access? What can it modify?
Our latest security blog explains how Replit helps teams answer those questions and enforce the answers.

I heard @satyanadella say on a podcast a few months ago that @github reliability was a top company priority.
What on earth is going on?
Scaling Github needs to be a Code Red. $MSFT truly fumbling their lead with developers here.

“is Replit built with Replit?”
The answer was historically “kinda.”
But today it’s “absolutely!”
Introducing Cloud Agents: run any codebase and generate pull requests right from Replit.
Same UX you love, but can run any repo!
Now anyone can now bring their ideas into the company codebase on Replit.
Replit Cloud Agents can turn natural language into a tested pull request, and engineers still approve the final code before it ships.
Our own design team used Replit to safely ship over 250k lines of code in the last 6 months, reviewed and approved by engineers.

Support knows which error messages leave customers stuck.
Imagine turning “we explain this 20 times a week” into a tested product fix.
Replit Cloud Agents make that possible, with engineers reviewing and approving the code before it ships.

I've spent years trying to make infrastructure truly self-service at hypergrowth companies. There's always a long tail of requests that get blocked on an infra engineer.
Replit Cloud Agents change that: anyone can ask for a new site or DNS change, and get a tested PR for review.
Today we're making it public.

I rejoined Replit a year ago this week. Things are pretty different the second time around. It's hard to overstate how much the company has reinvented itself since I left my first stint in the summer of 2024.
Today, we're launching the ability to make pull requests on Replit. I've been doing this exclusively for the last several months and have never been more productive.
I wrote about it on my blog: lincolnbergeson.com/post/how…
Introducing the Software Factory for every company and technical skill level. You no longer have to be a software engineer to contribute real meaningful work to a production codebase. With Replit, you can gather whole company context with agent connectors and fresh source code context to produce high-quality, verified pull requests to production code. Run parallel conversations with development previews to 10x your output. All while maintaining governance, audit logs, and connector security. Available on Pro and Enterprise plans today.

Over the past year, agents have fundamentally changed how our Infrastructure team operates at Replit. The safety guardrails built into Agent Habitat are what make that autonomy possible. Excited to bring this to more teams.
For centuries, the architecture of the firm has barely changed: hierarchies of people organized into departments and coordinated through bureaucracy.
AI agents are about to upend that.
We’re moving toward the self-driving company where humans exercise judgment and agents execute most of the work.
At Replit, we’re building the foundation for this new kind of company. We’re calling it “the Agent Habitat.”
Marc Andreessen wrote a fantastic piece placing this shift in the history of computing. Every major computing revolution began with chaos before businesses figured out how to harness it.

Last year I decided to switch to an IC role because AI was giving programmers insane leverage.
Now we're bringing that same leverage to everyone. We're transforming how every part of the company operates.
We believe by the end of 2030, every Fortune 500 will be a Self-Driving Company.
That doesn’t mean AI replaces people.
It means people remain in the driver's seat leading judgment, creativity and taste, while agents fuel execution.
This is the Self-Driving Company.
