I've been wanting to learn more about and build in the AI + Biology space, so I took the leap by using @huggingface new Carbon genomic foundation model and Meta's ESMFold model to build a pipeline that takes the same gene across six species and compares in various ways.
It's cool to see that DNA can change over hundreds of millions of years while the resulting protein structure stays very similar.
This was a fun project and I learned some important bioinformatic fundamentals like alignment a long the way!
Any suggestions on biology use cases or research I should checkout while I continue down this path?
Doing a break down per event would be fun but I think I've had over 6,000 people join AI book club live since I started tracking in 2024.
It's gone through several iterations, including starting as in-person in 2019 and then moving online during 2020 over zoom, then audio space, and now to video streams.
Join us tonight!
We're hosting another hacknight this Thursday (Oct 22nd) at the @union_ai Bellevue office: This months topic is owning your AI by build agentic model factories!
@niels_ai and @GalarnykMichael are in town and will be there as well!
You'll see how Union ai & Flyte give your AI workflows a durable runtime with infrastructure as context, so agents adapt infra resources, recover from failures, and keep moving without re-running completed work. And because it all runs in your own cloud, you own the full stack end to end: your models, your data, your infrastructure, your IP.
Then we switch into hack night mode: keep building on the example, bring your own models or datasets, experiment with evals and fine-tuning, extend open models to different parts of your agent, or start something new around the same ideas.
Should be fun and i hope to you there!

dm me if you're devrel in the inference space looking for a new awesome opp and are based in the bay area.
Awesome Flyte news! You can now run local devbox with Apple Silicon GPU support! 🍎
You can now run your local models and workflows with the durability, observabilty/artifact management, and reproducibility directlty on your mac
Excited to start seeing people run agents and model training with this
wrote more on it for this weeks Flyte log: flytelog.substack.com/p/run-…
This month we're reading Grokking Deep Reinforcement Learning by Miguel Morales for AI Book club!
This sets a good foundation of RL, and then next month well be reading Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback which contains modern practices with RL and LLMs

I'm going to experiment again with making chapters into a thread here that you're welcome to comment in before/after the live stream.
We stream here on X, but I recommend RSVPing on luma to make sure you get notifications about the event.
Another awesome book from @ManningBooks ! Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback is them as well.

I've been so busy with conferences, I'm excited to settle back in and be building some awesome stuff over the next few weeks!
