it's official: F1 is back at sepang, oct 2-4 🏁
and the deal is even better than the headline. bahrain keeps the name and the bill. malaysia gets the footfall. low key this is like a @MercedesAMGF1 home race (@Petronas is their title sponsor, after all)
if we look at the calendar: baku → sepang → singapore, it's three race weekends, back-to-back. and right after? token2049 and Solana Summit land in SG. international fans are basically booking a 2-week regional tour.
malaysia has ~60 days to catch that wave, and really hope we make it a banger🔥
1 | frictionless clearance: pop-up fast-track immigration at KLIA for F1 ticket holders, and seamless transit lanes for fans routing on to SG. don't make them queue!
2 | bring race week to KL: official fan zones in TRX and bukit bintang (or even KL sentral and mid valley) for non-ticket holders. the city should feel like race week, not just the circuit.
3 | the airport circuit play: sepang is a 10-min drive from KLIA. land, drop bags, hit the grandstand within the hour. sepang hotels reportedly already fully booked (prices tripling!). super awesome - race at sepang, stay in KL. visit malaysia 2026 could not ask for better logistics.
4 | F1 pro-am kart race: sepang literally has an international-grade 1.2km kart track next door (RUD karting). put F1 drivers, juniors and local creators on it thursday night for a viral kickoff. it's open till midnight, a night race would be dope🔥
5 | keep the spend local: race-weekend drops with malaysian brands, not generic paddock merch. e.g. montigo heat-busting tumblers, christy ng race-day totes, pestle & mortar / TNTCO / against lab pit jackets (yes, all malaysian brands!). and APOM doing a cheeky "lewis stool" or "i survived sepang heat" souvenir.
we said this was our qualifying session. lights out in 60 days. LFG 🇲🇾
(also I just realised that Sepang circuit kinda looks like a hibiscus!🌺look how beautiful it lights up at night!)
the "bahrain grand prix hosted by malaysia" sounds like a typo but it might be the smartest deal sepang ever signed 😏
quick explainer: every F1 race has a promoter who owns the slot and pays a hosting fee to F1 (USD25-30m a year, before you even stage the race — all-in, the bill runs RM300m+).
bahrain's slot can't run cos of the hormuz situation. the name and commercial package stay bahrain's. sepang just provides the track.
which means malaysia reportedly gets an F1 race WITHOUT footing the full bill everyone said we can't afford.
the split is still being negotiated, but stand-in venues historically pay a fraction. sometimes nothing. F1 needs a track more than the track needs F1 right now.
and the weird name? F1 has always been like this. the san marino GP ran for 26 years... in italy. the luxembourg GP was at the nürburgring. race title rights are commercial, the actual tarmac can be somewhere else entirely.
so here's how to think about it: this is our qualifying session. if sepang sells out for someone ELSE'S grand prix, the business case for our own only gets stronger.
c'mon, let's fill the grandstands, malaysia! let's put sepang back on the F1 map 🏁
(still waiting for our PM’s announcement!)

Easy to install, Easy to report and No login required
Here's something Malaysia could learn for its SaveME 999 app. Singapore has a SGSecure app to enable its citizens to report suspicious activities, trigger SOS and to get alerts/notifications from authorities.
Once installed, there's no login/registration/eKYC required. Users can submit a report with text, location info and photo attachment. For SOS, all you'll need is to set it up to allow sharing of location at all times.
If you send an SOS, the app will send an SMS to the police with a link sharing your live location. However, they still recommend users to call 999 whenever possible for immediate assistance from the police.
At a state scale, state could develop in house solution no need for any external sourcing. Why ?
