We made a song for our Mercer Island police officers. With the holidays coming, it's a small way to say thank you. If you'd like to help them enjoy a little part of Thanksgiving: backmipd.org/donate
Everyone's debating whether to tax AI. That's the wrong frame. Government won't swap payroll tax for a token tax. It will do what it has always done: redefine who counts as a worker. An Ai/Si agent hour becomes a labor hour.
I've run a city budget and a national state and local tax firm. Governments don't give up a revenue base. They redefine it. The question is whether we write that definition carefully or in a crisis.
Wondering how to support Mercer Island police beyond the City budget? The @mercergov Support MIPD page explains it: gifts through our chapter fund equipment, training, wellness and community programs. mercerisland.gov/police/page…
Tomorrow, Saturday Oct 24, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, 10 AM to 2 PM. It's a free, anonymous way to clear out unused or expired medications. Find a collection site near you: dea.gov/takebackday
Sunday's Coffee with a Cop at the South End Starbucks was the best kind of morning: neighbors, coffee and a couple of junior officers in full uniform. Thank you to @MercerIslandPD for making time for our community. backmipd.org
After years of serving Mercer Island, I'm starting a new chapter. I'm now Citizen Delegate for the Mercer Island Chapter of the North Sound Police Foundation, helping neighbors support @MercerIslandPD with equipment, training and officer wellness. backmipd.org

Happy National Coffee Day, Mercer Island.
MIPD is now a member agency of the North Sound Police Foundation, so we can support our officers directly: wellness, training and gear the City budget doesn't reach.

Happy National Coffee Day ☕
This morning’s shot: Lionshare from @caffelusso in Redmond, my favorite roast. Ground on a @kafatek from Bellevue, built in-house to extreme tolerances.
Cranberry and salted chocolate.

Saturday morning with Ethiopia Zema from @CaffeLusso. Light roast, bright blueberry and strawberry, lemon twist to make it pop. Some of the best beans in the Northwest. ☕🍋 #coffee #espresso
.@wsdot I get that you’re trying to make construction notices go viral. This isn’t it.
The Sept. 11–14 closure map is useful. The giant hard-hat geoduck with sunglasses, a cone tool belt, and “call in the closer” is not. It reads as a thinly disguised crude joke on an official state page that families, kids, and commuters all see.
If communications staff thought this was clever PNW humor, they misread the room. People already resent these closures. Wrapping them in sexualized mascot content makes the agency look unserious about the disruption it’s causing.
Post the closures. Skip the cartoon.
That is not fraud protection.
That is a bank ignoring its own travel flag, rejecting its own verification, and offering a fix that only works if you are not traveling.
The people on the phone were unprepared, rigid, and uninterested that their customer was stranded.
