Totally agree w/ MP @PamDamoff : @karen_vecchio is a "strong, competent" and a "smart, progressive conservative woman."
I'll add that she always takes time to meet & listen to #socialwork's perspective. I will miss her as Chair.

"'The benefit is too low, too few people in need are covered, it is complicated to access, lacks collaboration, and waits too long to meaningfully reduce poverty,' Prince said in his resignation letter." Oof.

Looking forward to this!
Canada's first-of-its-kind, pan-national Basic Income Guarantee conference — The BIG Forum in Ottawa — is 1 month away.
Visit forum2024.ca to learn more and register.
We believe that everyone in Canada deserves a secure future. Every day, headlines showcase people struggling with the crises we face — in food insecurity, housing affordability, precarious jobs, extreme weather, mental distress, discrimination, the disruption of artificial intelligence, anxiety about today, and lack of hope for the future.
These issues and many others are not only about income, but they are always about income. When we have income security enough to meet basic needs, then we have options, we have capacity to help ourselves and each other, we can manage transitions and take good risks, we can fix other problems. The need is urgent!
Participate at the May 23-26 national BIG Forum and be part of the solution.
Registration is available at forum2024.ca with in-person early-bird rates until April 22. The organizers have worked hard to try and keep rates as low as possible and to help ensure that those in lower income can attend and participate.
This means that social workers in rural & remote communities will be eligible for student loan forgiveness. Doctors and nurses have been included in this programme for years -- finally #socialworkers are being seen as essential, too. 🎉 #Budget2024

#Budget2024 is bringing a once-in-a-generation investment in youth mental health, at a time when young people need it most.
The $500M Youth Mental Health Fund will fill gaps in our mental health support system to ensure young Canadians get help they need, in their communities.

Proud that CASW has a progressive stance.
"On social policy, [The CASW Code of Ethics] asks that [social workers] “(develop) insight into the social work profession’s historical role in colonialism” while also advocating “to end oppression, racism and discrimination.”
