Data centers cannot be built in residential zoning!
Before the vote, some Lakeland residents voiced concerns about rezoning the area.

I think a lot about the value of Shelby County & Mississippi’s respective regulatory approvals of SpaceX (then xAI) constructing short term and long term power generation for the company’s Memphis & Mississippi data centers.
How many billions is that worth? Trillions?
Interesting sections on energy in Anthropic's S1 filing!
There's been speculation on how data centers are managing fuel price risk from gas offtake, whether off-grid data centers will happen at scale
- 'an increasing share of data centers being developed with dedicated onsite generation independent of the grid'
- ANT exposed to fuel price volatility as they bear cost on a pass-through basis, no cap on fuel costs
- Lack of firm gas supply can delay facilities
- For grid connected assets, ANT discusses 'investing in curtailment systems' to reduce strain during peak periods
- Cooling needs may increase over time for data centers due to changing climate
- Notes risk that utilities may reallocate capacity required by ANT data centers

We dug into how Shelby County taxpayers were going to pay for a new trauma center.
Here's what we found:
In August, I started reporting on Regional One's plans for a new hospital with a simple question: How much public 💰 had been spent, and how much had been promised to contractors, for a proposed $1B hospital?
Here's what I learned (a thread) 1/5
The reality? Pretty boring: Shelby Co. had a clear, easy process to ensure Regional One didn't run up tens of millions on the public's credit.
And Regional One has actively avoided committing taxpayers to something they can't afford 4/5

Reginald Coopwood, Regional One's CEO, told me in an interview last week that the hospital is $800M+ short of what it needs to build a new hospital.
He also said the hospital system has a clear line it won't cross without more funding.

This is probably the right analysis. Hatley is taking votes from Blackburn, eroding her margin. That means she has to address her opponent, whose ceiling, based on past Dem results, is like 38-44% of the vote.
But if Hatley takes 10% and it comes from Blackburn...
Replying to @samhardiman @HasbullaBurna
Literally a 3rd candidate is taking a large chunk of the Conservative votes from Black. It would not be competitive if Hatley wasn’t a stalking horse for Green.
The TN GOP is sending me anti-Molder mailers all of a sudden. Not sure the folks gambling on the race at Kalshi are factoring that in.
The fact that Sen. Blackburn is even acknowledging Memphis City Councilmember Jerri Green, Democratic nom for gov, should tell you all you need to know about how the national picture is affecting deep-red TN
This is a contrast election: I fought for the Memphis Safe Task Force, and just last night my radical liberal socialist opponent voted for a resolution to remove ICE and the National Guard from taking part in the Memphis Safe Task Force.
Tennesseans have a choice between someone who will stand with law enforcement to keep their families safe and a radical liberal socialist who would put illegal aliens over your family.

Most of the world's money is electrons. What happens if agents disrupt the world's banking system? Maybe an AI apocalypse isn't agents firing nuclear weapons, but agents grinding world commerce to a halt... at a time when the world is at risk of famine...
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.
