This holiday season, give the gift of the free press to an information-starved family. Beat autocratic censors and poke Putin and the Iranian mullahs in the eye by donating the price of a chai latte. A free press: It’s the best gift you’ll give all year. samizdatonline.org/donate.ht…

"press restriction is universal" - No it is not. There has not been a single voice in America that was thrown in prison or killed for voicing their point of view. Being banned from Twitter is not "press restriction". This is a difference in KIND - not degree.
Fascinating
Ekaterina Duntsova, 40, from Tver region, editor-in-chief of the local TV studio, local politician and mom of three, has announced her candidacy for the Russian presidential "elections" next spring.
I will watch the situation with her carefully and will report here about news about Duntsova. Keep reading to find out more about her.
Ekaterina Duntsova, a resident of Rzhev town in Tver region of Russia, announced she would be running for president on November 16. She said she would be the advocate for stopping combat, democratic reforms, and release of political prisoners. Her candidacy was supported by the Nash Shtab project, which was created by a group of the "Ark Project" staff in October to support anti-war presidential candidates. After that, posts promoting Duntzova's candidacy were shared on dozens of Russian Telegram channels.
Five days after making her announcement, Duntsova was summoned to the Russian prosecutor's office and questioned about her attitude toward the war in Ukraine.
According to Duntsova, she was questioned about her candidacy and her attitude to the war in Ukraine. Afterwards, she signed an explanatory statement in which she confirmed that the VKontakte (Russian social media) page belonged to her and gave a general explanation.
▪️ As reported by Duntzova herself, she is 40 years old and has three children. According to her VKontakte social network page, she has been working in the media in Rzhev since 2003 and was editor-in-chief of the local TV studio RIT from 2006 to 2022. In 2019 she was elected deputy of the City Duma, where she worked until 2022.
▪️ According to Duntsova's VKontakte posts, since 2016 she has actively supported the city's main "United Russia" (leading political party in Russia) political party member Roman Krylov: she voted for him in the party's primaries during his nomination to the regional parliament, and as a deputy, she supported his appointment as the city's head. She also reposted Krylov's call to vote in the 2018 presidential election and urged people to vote in 2020 on constitutional amendments that nullified presidential terms (she voted against it).
▪️ Duntsova explained her support for the member of the United Russia party Krylov by saying that at the local level, what is more important to her is the connections, competencies, and qualities a person possesses, rather than which political force he or she belongs to. She also noted that in politics it is necessary to interact with different parties, otherwise it is impossible to solve some important issues for citizens. Speaking about voting on amendments to the Constitution, Duntsova said that she believes it is necessary to participate in all elections and referendums.
The Nash Shtab project, which supported Duntsova, was created in October by a group of the "Ark's" associates. The project is reportedly ready to support any candidate with an anti-war stance who advocates democratic reforms, an immediate end to the war and the release of political prisoners. Candidates are promised assistance in collecting signatures and organizing election campaigns.
▪️ A member of Nash Shtab Burakova told the Russian media agency that they have interviewed 14 potential candidates and so far only Duntsova has accepted all their terms. For now, they are helping her with her website, design and social media campaign, and in January they will start collecting signatures for her nomination, which will take place all over the world, she added. According to her, the project has no funding at the moment and operates only thanks to volunteers, but private donors are now being sought. She said the advertising posts that have appeared on major Telegram channels are free of charge and explained them as the work of volunteers who have the necessary connections.

Breaking news: Dr. Fatemeh RajaeiRad has been fired from university following her defiance of the Islamic regime’s mandatory hijab law.
She posted on her instagram: “The roaring river finds its way, even if it must pass through hard and impenetrable rocks.”
The Islamic Republic is a gender apartheid regime that is afraid of powerful and successful women like Dr. RajaeiRad. She will not be silenced, and doctors worldwide should bring attention to this injustice on her behalf. #WomanLifeFreedom

Breaking: The Islamic regime has executed 20-year-old Milad Zahrevand, a protester detained during last year’s #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran. This act follows a pattern of denying legal representation and fair due process, mirroring numerous cases in Iran. The global community must stand firm and isolate a regime that persistently violates the right to peaceful protest.
Just re-posting this again since exactly nothing has been done on Google's part to change the fact that they're the principal distributor of pro-Putin propaganda in Russia.

As allowing Covid to run rampant reduced pension costs, tossing hundreds of thousands of Russians into a military meat grinder reduces unemployment. Human life is not something Putin, or Russia in his image, cares about. The oil and gas still flow.

I sometimes see Westerners saying that the more human losses Russia sustains, the more injured and traumatized Russians return back home, the sooner public opinion will change and Russians will start opposing the war.
Many Ukrainians, including myself, have thought so, too, in the first months of the war. We addressed Russian mothers, Russian women, told them that their sons and husbands will be killed or maimed. We got very little feedback and virtually no results.
For the Russians these dead soldiers are "heroes who protected the Motherland". And Russians choose to see them this way, empowered by propaganda and ideology - Russia is very good at hero-izing the dead. They refuse to realize that it was their country that invaded another state, their country that kills, loots, rapes and injures civilians in Ukraine; that these Russian soldiers are murderers and villains. In fact, for many of Russian women life becomes better with their men gone - a lot of them had drinking problems, abused their families, did not work proper jobs. Usually the people who get mobilized or sign contracts with the Russian army are from specific social circles - the educated middle class (a broad generalization) is not keen to go to war. Usually it's poorer men from distant villages who are in the trenches. So now these women can live freely and get a substantial amount of money from the government, living with a glossed over memory of their son, husband or father. In a way, that reassures them that Russia is doing everything right. And as Russia has over 140 million people, it has a virtually endless resource of cannon fodder.
As for the injured - Russia mostly hides its invalids inside, so no one sees them and remembers them. After WWII people who lost limbs or had other deformities were even sent to special "colonies" so they wouldn't get in contrast with the shiny myth of the great victory. What Russians don't see, they don't care about.
So these incredible losses of the Russian army serve more to mobilize and inspire the Russian society and increase Putin's approval ratings. This prolongs the war, and the longer the war lasts, the harder it will be to overpower Russia. And every day Russia becomes a bigger problem for the whole world.
What to do, then?
It's important to destroy, disrupt and break down Russia's military potential - as quickly as possible. That is what Ukraine is doing with attacking plants that produce military goods, breaking down logistical chains, taking down headquarters and so on. That is why it's so important for Ukraine to get long-range missiles.
Another crucial thing is combating Russian propaganda - it is the source of war and a huge part of it. Russian propagandists are war criminals. Severe personal sanctions are needed not just against the most known figures but against everyone who serves that machine.

The EU is worried about "following the rules" regarding Russian crooks enabling a genocidal dictatorship waging war in Europe. Putin pal Orban's Hungary takes the EU presidency on Jan 1 and they'll follow the rules there, too? This is how Russia gained so much influence. 3/4

Nazila Maroufian, the journalist who interviewed the father of Mahsa Jina Amini, has been arrested for the fourth time in under a year. Today, oppressors stormed her house, smashed the door, and violently abducted her. Ironically, the world’s most anti-woman regime is terrified of women more than anything else. #WomanLifeFreedom
Excellent analysis by @wrightr. Deprogramming the Russians is precisely our objective.
As Zelensky said to the US Congress last year - "The Russians will stand a chance to be free only when they defeat the Kremlin in their minds."
My analysis on #Putin & Russia's future. Dictators need only 30% support to survive--to run, police, tax & defend a state. Despite 100,000 casualties in #Ukraine since Dec, polls claim #Putin has + 80%. He also has many tools to retain power in short-term. wilsoncenter.org/article/put…

What is the price of happiness in Iran? The owner of this grocery store announced that those customers who came into his shop with a dance would get free milk. Today agents of the Islamic regime closed the store after a video of the dancing customers went viral.
