Good software alone is no longer defensible. Anything can be recreated, remixed, or repurposed. You have to stay five or six steps ahead of the competition. You have to brute force a new reality into existence. It’s the only way to survive and succeed.
Heading to OpenAI DevDay tomorrow to feel the AGI in person.

I run 7 YouTube channels.
Last night I connected ChatGPT Astra to @descript and the @vidIQ MCP.
This combo finds outlier topics, looks at positioning gaps, creates brand guidelines, then edits the entire video for me with all that context.
What the fuck.
I can 10x creative output with no extra hours.
YouTube just doubled the bar to get monetized. Starting Feb 1, 2027, new creators need 8,000 watch hours to join the Partner Program, double today's requirement.
So we looked at newly launched channels that crossed 4,000 watch hours for the first time in their first year, to see how fast the next leg actually moves.
The answer: fast. Median time from 4K to 8K was just 6 days. 64% doubled within 30 days. 76% within 90. 80% within 180.
We stress-tested it with a stricter data cut too, same story holds: 61% within 30 days, 7-day median.
(Scope check: this is new channels hitting 4K in their first year, already climbing hard when they cross the line)
Bottom line: the bar just got higher, but the data says most new channels that reach 4K are already moving fast enough to clear it. If you just hit 4,000 hours, you're not slowing down, you're just mid-climb. Keep going 💪
with Shorts requirements going up.. might be good time for YouTube faster on Swipes. 🔥🦾 cc @nealmohan
🚨 BREAKING 🚨
YouTube is quietly rebuilding Studio.
"Analytics" becomes "Insights." AI cards surface what's working. The Trends tab becomes a full Research hub.
Small test group for now, but this tells you exactly where YouTube is headed. Breakdown below:
Claude can now pull live data from 135,000,000 YouTube channels.
Most creators are still paying $200 a month for analytics tools that do less.
Here’s the part nobody’s using.
Without the connector, Claude guesses. It gives you generic advice it could’ve written in 2023.
With it, Claude reads real-time data across 135M channels — and tells you exactly why your last video bled viewers at second 14.
Setup takes under 2 minutes:
→ Copy the connector URL (link in reply)
→ Open Claude, click Customize
→ Go to Connectors, click Add custom connector
→ Paste the URL, click Add
→ Done
Now you can run prompts a $2,000 consultant charges for:
“What’s trending in my niche right now?”
It pulls live topics climbing in your exact category — not last month’s leftovers.
“Why did people click away from my last video?”
It breaks down the drop-off, second by second, against channels that retained.
“Rewrite my title to match the top 10 performers in my niche this week.”
It studies what’s actually working today and gives you 5 options.
The math is simple.
A creator with 10,000 subscribers who lifts average view duration from 40% to 55% can 3x their watch time without a single new video. That’s the difference between $400 a month and $1,400 a month on the same uploads.
The data was always there. 135M channels, every retention curve, every title that worked. You just couldn’t read it.
Now Claude reads it for you in 30 seconds.
Most people will scroll past this and keep guessing. 7,000 will set it up tonight and stop guessing forever.
The window on “nobody knows this yet” closes fast.
We pulled the day by day view history of 8.6 million YouTube videos with a full year of data, and split it by format.
Shorts and long form are not the same game. They're not even the same sport.
The typical Short earns 95% of its first year views in the first 7 days. After a week, it's basically done. A firework.
Long form is the opposite. The typical long form video keeps climbing for weeks, and almost half of all long form views land after the first month.
Shorts spike. Long form compounds.
So "post daily or die" is really Shorts advice. If you're betting on long form, the game isn't the launch. It's building something the algorithm keeps recommending in month three.
Are you playing for the spike or the compound?
We analyze tens of millions of new YouTube uploads every month at vidIQ.
Uploads in the last 30 days alone: 49M long form videos.
The median one got 207 views.
0.04% hit 1M.
And a Short was 10x more likely to cross 1M than a long form video.
The algorithm isn't suppressing you. The math is just brutal.
Most creators are simply playing the wrong format.
