I am deeply saddened to learn the news of my former coach International Master Varugeese Koshy sir passing away 😢💔
He played a crucial role in shaping my career and helping me become an International master. Under his guidance, I learned not only chess but also discipline, ethics, and hard work. A wonderful person who was instrumental in shaping the careers of many Indian chess players including me.
RIP Koshy Sir.

Renier Castellanos is a chess coach. Back in his younger days he had hit an Elo of 2530, but was unable to complete his norms to get the GM title. Fast forward to his age of 40 and he still had one GM norm pending. He had since many years given up his ambition of becoming a GM. But then people close to him pushed him to make an attempt towards the title.
And Renier picked up the challenge. At the Menorca Open 2024, just a few days ago, he achieved his final GM norm and became a Grandmaster. A lifelong dream was achieved at the age of 41 years. How did Renier do it? How did Jacob help him? This is an inspiring story of a man who dared to do the tough things in life and succeeded. Learn from his findings.
