In July 2015 a TV reporter sat in a small house in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, interviewing the father of a dead medical student. An hour into the interview, he started breathing heavily. Then he foamed at the mouth, collapsed and died.
His name was Akshay Singh, a special correspondent with Aaj Tak.
He was investigating the Vyapam scam. For years, people had allegedly paid bribes to get seats in medical colleges and government jobs in Madhya Pradesh through rigged exams.
By 2015 about 2,000 people had been arrested, including politicians and officials. Most got bail.
Then people connected to the scam started dying. A court appointed team found at least 23 of those deaths unnatural.
One of them was Namrata Damor, a 19 year old medical student said to have got her seat through Vyapam. In 2012 her body was found on the railway tracks in Ujjain.
Her first autopsy said she died of violent asphyxia from smothering. There were scratch marks on her face.
On 4 July 2015 Akshay Singh went to meet her father. That is where he collapsed.
Three days later the case went to the CBI.
The CBI later said there was no foul play in his death. In Namrata's case, it filed a closure report calling it suicide.

6 years in jail. No trial. Not a single witness examined
In Modi's India, you don't need to be convicted to spend 6 years in jail. You just need to be accused.
→ Umar Khalid has moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the Delhi riots "larger conspiracy" case. Sharjeel Imam has also moved the court.
→ Umar was arrested on September 13, 2020. He has been in jail for over 6 years now.
→ The case is under UAPA, the anti-terror law, where getting bail is almost impossible.
→ Charges have still not been framed. The trial hasn't even started.
→ The prosecution has cited 900+ witnesses, including 47 protected witnesses. As per the plea, not even one has been examined.
→ In January 2026, the Supreme Court denied him bail and said he could apply again after protected witnesses are examined or after one year, "whichever is earlier".
→ The trial court and the Delhi High Court then said their hands were tied by that order. Bail was rejected again.
→ The one-year wait ends on January 5, 2027. The plea says the witnesses can't possibly be examined before that.
→ Meanwhile, 7 co-accused in the same case have walked out on bail.
→ In May, the Supreme Court itself said, while giving interim bail to two co-accused, that they "cannot be made to suffer continued incarceration" just because a legal question is pending.
Now connect the dots.
Same case. Same FIR. Same police.
7 co-accused are out. Umar is still inside.
Charges not framed in 6 years.
900+ witnesses listed, not one examined.
The process itself has become the punishment.
And the police behind this case report to Amit Shah's Home Ministry.

You get arrested in 2020. Your trial hasn't started in 2026.
Your parents grow older waiting outside court every few months.
Your friends finish PhDs, get married, have kids.
You are still waiting for the first witness to speak.
No verdict. No guilt proved. Just dates, and more dates.
That's 6 years of a young man's life gone. Without one conviction.
That's not justice. That's a jail sentence without a trial.
Modi, if Umar Khalid is so guilty, why can't your police prove it in 6 years?
Why are charges still not framed?

The Egyptian-American surgeon Dr. Adam Hamawy, who volunteered in Gaza during the genocidal war and performed more than 100 surgeries, has won a seat in the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey, becoming the first Muslim to represent the state in its history.
