Undergraduate REU intern @MegAlberding spent the summer with the Plankton Ecology lab, analyzing ISIIS data on chaetognath distributions, and joining us in our summer cruise. Yesterday she presented a poster at the @HatfieldMSC summer symposium. Thanks for the fun summer Meg!

Stomatopod (aka mantis shrimp) larva from the South Atlantic Bight - the adults have up to 16 visual pigments (we only have 4). Who knows what this little one sees, but it develops some of the most amazing eyes in the animal world!

Oceanography influences larval survival, which influences fishery catch, which influences fishing community resilience.

Southern ports are more likely to experience declines in Dungeness crab catch, but their communities are less susceptible (lower reliance on the fishery and lower social vulnerability) than northern ports. Check out my recent paper in @FrontMarineSci

This special issue was created as part of the 2019 Larval Fish Conference in Mallorca.
Is it a coincidence that my paper in this issue came out exactly one day after the 2020 virtual Larval Fish Conference? Yes. But it is a fun coincidence!

The @calcofi time series was est. following a major collapse in the Pacific sardine fishery. Since then, it has grown to be one of the longest running time series for larval fishes. My research wouldn't be possible without this program. Great talk by A. Thompson @LFC44MYSTIC

Planktonic polychaete larvae use their bristles for protection. When feeling vulnerable these baby worms roll up into a ball, before unrolling and escaping. Just like a hegdgehog or echidna. @zeiss_micro
