How I've maneuvered myself into a life discussing politics is a mystery to me, because I hate politics and would much rather spend my time on earth discussing 1) the fact Cape Cod and Long Island are part of the same terminal moraine and 2) exploding lakes

Happy anniversary to The Times They Are a-Changin', the truly cursed Bob Dylan Broadway musical that opened on this date in 2006 (and closed a couple weeks later). For "Like a Rolling Stone," they had the whole cast—wait for it—roll around on stones.
This is an interesting perspective that makes a lot of sense as long as you ignore all human history xitter.cf/mattyglesias/status/21…
32% of eligible US voters chose Trump in 2024, yet it was presented in the American media as an amazing landslide. Lula's reelection was significantly bigger, but it will be presented as eking out a win.

The summer I turned 20 I climbed out of the circled window here and into the window to its left, mostly to try to impress some women. My point here is it’s amazing there are any adult men alive on earth.
Kalshi is a vile pernicious company making the world worse in every way, so I was happy to cost them a tiny amount of money by taking a free cappuccino from a Kalshi branded food truck in lower Manhattan.
👍 to Sayed but he's wrong that Adam Smith coined the word "capitalism." Capitalism wasn't a word that anybody used until the 1800s, decades after Smith died. xitter.cf/ravi_mangla/status/211…
Explosive story many years in the making, now out in Vanity Fair by Matthew Cole (who will be on Breaking Points next week, and publishing soon in @DropSiteNews):
Saudi Arabia and the UAE set up multi-billion slush funds for Jared Kushner to use.
Iran-Contra 2 here (except with Iran-Contra, at least the US got some hostages released. Not clear what we got out of this one.)

In 1983, a BBC interviewer asked Richard Feynman why two magnets push each other apart — and he refused to answer it.
What he did instead is the best seven minutes on thinking ever filmed.

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here.
A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy.
So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years.
The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip.
I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform.
Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post.

Disagree with David Friedman all you want, but it's undeniably true that Jewish civil rights workers in the 1960s did not take pictures of themselves with their phones nor did they post such pictures on twitter xitter.cf/DavidM_Friedman/status…

One day people will look back with bewilderment and disdain at the ritualistic western condemnations of armed resistance of those living in concentration and death camps

The contradictions are sharpening.
James Carville says he'd rather have Republicans keep control of the House than Democrats winning the chamber by 5 seats.
"I would rather the Republicans keep the House by five than the Democrats win by five, because if that happens, they’re hostage to the DSA. Like, Hakeem cannot move. There’s no place for him to go."

I spoke with the independent journalist @infinite_jaz, who was present during the violent, brutal attack by Israeli settlers -- terrorists -- on the WashPost photojournalist Heidi Levine and others.
He explains how ordinary this is now, with the full participation of the IDF.
