Tornadoes, aurora, 3km CAPE/vort bullseyes, streamwise hodos with that kink at 700mb, and the stray cat in my yard. As seen on TV one time like 7 years ago

Like a painting, but real. A dusty occluding tornado over open land as the sunset lights up its parent updraft. #kswx #stormhour @ReedTimmerAccu @spann 6.23.2023 - Johnson, KS

Going out with a bang πŸ’₯
Losing the NAM really sucks. It does a handful of things better than the rest. Subtle, terrain-driven impacts (common across Oklahoma, Illinois, Iowa, etc. - not just Colorado) and broader scale trough progressions will be far less predictable without it.

A reminder that today is the final day for the NAM, SREF, HREF, HiresW models and NAM MOS. Tomorrow they are retired with the RRFS and REFS becoming the NCEP flagship mesoscale models.

If you’re me and live in a high terrain desert the NAM is by far the best mixing model during summertime storm events. No, the spreads at 3 PM are not always 40 degrees, REFS, despite your best efforts. You would expect nothing but outflow and virga showers without the NAM.

If anyone has source code for the boundary conditions that the operational NAM uses please forward it to me. I’d love to rebuild it and run it in my basement like a weird tech nerd would

There is a fairly new, weird obsession with being as close as possible at all times in storm chasing, which means always driving, often in sketchy spots. If that's your thing: cool, you do you. But this one goes out to the stop, sit, and watch crowd. You're cool too.

College football lightning delays are getting absurd. So I went down the rabbit hole: how many people have actually been killed by lightning during a Division I football game in the last 50 years? Thread 🧡
