It’s just crazy how literally nothing can break the perception that republicans are fiscally conservative. It does not matter that republicans have exploded the debt and deficit every time for the last 50 years, people still insist they’re fiscally conservative
If the stock market crashes on Monday, it would cement a Democratic sweep on Tuesday. Ironically, a crash that helps Democrats win may be driven by investors pricing in that outcome, as Democrats will likely raise corporate taxes and be more fiscally reckless than Republicans.

For @WIRED, I spoke with Macmillan and PRH staff about AI at the rest of the Big Five. I also spoke with bestselling authors who've gone to "war" with publishers over AI use and are now demanding disclosures and threatening to leave their publishers altogether.

It’s great that the AI companies can keep the conversation on whether their tech is sentient or not when its main function so far is to expand the surveillance state and maximize state power, whether that’s with the police, ICE, or the military.
New: an AI company now lets cops identify specific houses, using data from Zillow/Airbnb, based on a single photo. It's part of Raven, previously called Geospy. Company previously demoed its tools to catch people vandalizing Flock cameras or protesters 404media.co/ai-company-lets-…

I think people would have reacted to the railroad very differently if Cornelius Vanderbilt kept saying the trains are alive and want to kill you.
This kind of public panic is something I have never seen in living memory. Probably nothing like it since the Industrial Revolution. We seem to have adapted to other innovations like computerization, process optimization, the car, and air travel without this kind of mass panic.

Every Republican in every red state is convinced that their state is run by a secret cabal of democrats who are the source of all wrong and that they must reelect the incumbent republicans to get rid of that cabal, which they did not do in their previous term

Comic book nerds are the worst at dealing with media. They don’t care about the story or the creative desires of the storytellers. They want it to be what they want, and if it’s not exactly that, they cry and pretend that not getting what they want is a creative failure.
James Gunn defends the decision of killing Hal Jordan in Lanterns He also says Kyle Chandler is a big reason why fans are loving the show and he praises Kyle Chandler in general!

It doesn't really sink in how insane the Roman Empire was until you write a sentence like "We have the skeleton of a man in York who was bitten by a lion."

So the Liberation Day tariffs that were supposed to raise all this government revenue were instead a huge wealth transfer from regular people to huge corporations. Got it.

Called a guy to remove a tree from my yard He charged $750 Asked how many he does per week “Oh God, are you one of those morons who post about how easy it is to make six figures in the trades by assuming I’m fully booked and have zero costs? You know what, I’m actually going to charge you $1,750 for this job or I’ll just let the tree fall into your roof.” Incredible. $1,750 for just a few minutes of work. Imagine if he does just 10 other jobs a week. That’s $70k+ per month. Almost a million a year. I need to get into tree trimming!

i'm sure the ability to fabricate convincing historical footage that eventually drifts across the internet, where it's picked up by people who present them as real, at a time when trust in educational and media institutions is already eroding, will prove to be a net positive
Turns out that Flux 3 is exceptional at generating historical footage... like elementary school students in the '90s predicting how we'll use computers. (the last girl is my favorite!)

Or you could just talk to your kids, like a normal person
cool use case of chatgpt work i heard last night: connect your family calendars and explain your kids' interests. every morning for the drive to school, have it make a podcast that talks about one kid's soccer game that afternoon, one kid's upcoming birthday, some news, etc.

When everyone thinks you are senile, a good strategy is to invoke your hatred of windmills, as there are no famous literary parallels to this
