HI FRIENDS! My beloved friend Sara Sophia has been baking bread to supply local homeless orgs in Columbus, GA, dealing with major food shortages. She's trying to ramp up production but needs help. If you're interested in chipping in, DM me for Venmo info!

This is a devastating loss. @sassycrass was a brilliant thinker and writer and so kind and warm and generous and funny. Rest well, Fiqah ♥️

I'm going to say, again, that when long COVID effects kill me - sooner than later - I need y'all to recognize and say LOUDLY what it was. Long COVID is keeping my blood pressure at 230/128, in spite of taking an elaborate cocktail of meds. Long COVID is shredding my kidneys.

In April 2020 I took a job at AFT to start a journal supporting our 175k healthcare members. Editing’s rarely glamorous to look at but from our 1st issue in fall 2020 to the 7th issue we’re working on now, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’re building #AFTSUatWork #AFTSUstrong
Happy #tbt, union siblings! Today, we're challenging our AFTSU members to quote tweet this with a picture of them on the job at AFT. Share a snap of yourself (and your colleagues!) on the clock to uplift AFT members. Don't forget the hashtag #AFTSUatWork. #AFTSUstrong

It's striking how much the map of asthma-related ER visits during the wildfire smoke matches the NYC heat vulnerability map. Neighborhood differences in climate risk are rooted in past & present racism. There is no climate justice without racial justice! (h/t @kemencevisule)

Orcas have sunk 3 boats in Europe and appear to be teaching others to do the same. Scientists think a traumatized orca initiated the assault on boats after a "critical moment of agony" and that the behavior is spreading among the population. livescience.com/animals/orca…

nyc hasn't been paying the preschool and daycare providers that make up its once-lauded pre-k system. one estimate from january put the amount owed to them at ~ $400 million. i took a look at how they're coping for @bw + @CityLab bloomberg.com/news/features/…

it’s fascinating to me that writing is the backbone of society (we learn everything from text!) but people seem to think it’s both 1) the easiest job in the world and 2) a job only privileged people pursue and thus shouldn’t complain about how little it pays.

👋I’m back. And I wrote about the current wave of attempts to downplay long COVID—less outright denial & more "it’s real but no big deal". Except: it very much is. It’s a substantial and ongoing crisis that still demands our attention. 1/ theatlantic.com/health/archi…

New study shows 43 of the 50 most populous cities in the US spend more on police, jails, courts, etc than on health & human svcs, public health, parks & rec, etc. This spending ratio is not correlated to public safety at all. journals.plos.org/plosone/ar…
