there's lots of new folks around here lately, so a quick (re)intro 👋 im Kory, Research Scientist at @GoogleDeepMind working on generative AI models and agents i've spent ~10yr doing live theatre comedy alongside machines (my hair is ... shorter now) always trying to get great technology into the hands of creative people if this resonates, say hey and tell me about what you are building...

On this Israeli election day, I’d recommend reading this extraordinary @haaretzcom interview with billionaire Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress and once one of Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest confidants. One of Lauder’s most striking conclusions: “I realized at the end of the day that Israel really didn't want peace, but they wanted dominance.” This is coming from someone who helped launch Netanyahu’s political career, introduced him to powerful figures in American politics and media, and secretly negotiated with Hafez al-Assad and Rafik Hariri on his behalf in the late 1990s. In one of the interview’s biggest revelations, Lauder says Netanyahu agreed to a comprehensive peace deal with Syria and Lebanon, including withdrawal from the Golan Heights, but ultimately refused to sign it for political reasons. “He chose politics over peace. He put his political future before the deal.” Now 82, Lauder describes his profound disillusionment with Israel’s direction. After decades of supporting Israeli and Jewish institutions, he has sold his Tel Aviv apartment, given away his Be’er Sheva property, and says he has no intention of returning to Israel. He warns that Netanyahu’s dependence on figures like Ben-Gvir and Smotrich is damaging Israel, alienating diaspora Jews and eroding support in Washington. The interview is also full of fascinating details about Lauder’s role in Netanyahu’s political rise. The two became close friends in the 1980s, when Netanyahu was Israel’s ambassador to the UN, speaking almost daily at times. Lauder says he introduced Netanyahu to speech coach Lilyan Wilder to improve his public speaking and, crucially, to Republican strategist Arthur Finkelstein, who would become instrumental in Netanyahu’s electoral success. When Netanyahu left New York to pursue a political career in Israel, Lauder threw him a farewell party attended by some of the most influential figures in American media and politics, including Rupert Murdoch and the head of the New York Times. Lauder recalls opening doors for Netanyahu and helping him cultivate the relationships that would underpin his rise to power. What makes this interview so revealing is that Lauder is no longtime critic of Israel. He had been a committed Zionist, a Republican power broker, and a man who spent decades financing Jewish institutions, cultivating relationships with Arab leaders, and pursuing diplomatic openings on Israel’s behalf. A fascinating read 👇 haaretz.com/israel-news/elec…

Science is not some hobby that serves the self actualization of people in a publicly sponsored job placement program. It is the systematic search for truth.
Wow, over 1,000 mathematicians have now joined the Association for Human Mathematics (AHM), committing to: > NOT publish AI generated math papers > NOT work with frontier labs > 654 of them went even further to NOT even use AI in their research, at all

I am delighted to announce the launch of Metis Reasoning, a new AI company I have founded with a team of researchers, mathematicians, robotics experts and entrepreneurs. We are pursuing a different approach to general and embodied AI reasoning: developing systems that can establish what they know, test conclusions against evidence and learn to reason more effectively through experience. Alongside today's launch, we are publishing The Age of Reasoning, a white paper setting out the research foundations of our approach and what we believe the next generation of AI could look like. I will also be discussing these ideas @NVIDIAGTC in Berlin today, alongside researchers exploring new approaches to AI.

While I agree that change will take time I disagree with the "lazy" part. AI is being used heavily by a large number of people, the reason its effects it is not as transformational as he hoped is that bottlenecks shift to areas where AI is not the remedy.

I wish experienced developers would stop shitting on people who build things with AI. “AI slop.” “Generic.” “Broken on mobile.” A person that doesn't know the first thing about programming, but had an idea, built an actual product, and had the courage to share it with the world, gets bullied basically. How about a little encouragement instead? Everyone starts somewhere!

Banger paper from Google DeepMind on long-horizon multi-agent coding. (bookmark it) They report that, to the best of their knowledge, this is the first end-to-end autonomous completion of Minecraft by AI agents. They report that four Gemini 4 Argon agents beat Minecraft end-to-end. They defeated the Ender Dragon in 27 hours and 14 minutes with no human intervention. Each agent controlled one player through the standard Mineflayer library. No one assigned roles, wrote game logic, or scouted a seed in advance. The agents planned, wrote, and debugged every program themselves, and coordinated through in-game chat and a shared memory. Over the run, they wrote 2,783 programs and died 605 times. They split the work, shared what they learned, and recovered each other's items after deaths. If you build agents for long software or enterprise tasks, this is a useful case study. The team had to keep one plan consistent across thousands of dependent steps for more than a day. arxiv.org/abs/2610.22319 Chat with Paper: academy.dair.ai/papers/a-tea…
